Apollon Audio Class-D Amp Build Quality

I'd say it depends on your speakers ?
I have the Apollon NCx500 and with my Piega Classic 3 the lowest gain setting (12.8dB iirc) is fine for my living room with the WiiM volume around 50% ...
Thanks. I have the Elac Vela 409.2 with 90db sensitivity. Then I guess I have to just test it and find a setting in which volume is okay to me and nothing distorts.

Distortion is not the problem of the WiiM Amp. Not to mention it doesn't clip at all. This is :I doubt you'll hear any distortion at any level from the wiim/amp before you hit the speakers limit
Otherwise, it can't fully drive such floostanders in a big room with it. It can't reach the speaker's limit.
I usually don‘t really believe in „amplifier sound“ but since I have those big floorstands now I actually want to try and compare the little WiiM with its 120W/4ohm to one of the best amplifiers available - the Purifi with its 425W/4ohm. I‘m just curious.
The dealer I ordered the Purifi from actually warned me that the Purifi together with my Elacs will sound very „fast“ and „transparent“ - whatever this means for him

Usually if there is a difference in comparing decent but very different amps it will be heard in the better amp in the bass and mid bass as a tighter sound and the mids will be more impactful too. I now received my Apollon Purifi 1ET400A:
Deliver time took two weeks to Germany. The amp, even if new, as a flaw in that a very small part of the case has a dent where also the coating is damaged. Doesn’t matter to me though - just painted it black and it’s fine for me. However, should not happen with a new ampflier of course.
As written above I am using it with a WiiM Pro Plus as preamp. Setting the again level of the Apollon to 12.8db (lowest setting) works fine for my speakers (89db sensitivity).
As others have presumed before, I do not hear any difference in sound compared to the very cheap WiiM Amp with its 2x120W at 4ohms. However, I will keep the Apollon as I find it very nice and also know (confirmation bias) that it won‘t get much better than this.
So I now know that a 425W high end class d amp does not sound better than a cheap but good 2x120W amp by all means.
Would buy the Apollon again however, it just makes me happy. Communication with Tibor was fine as well! My recommendation.

After two days I am coming to the conclusion that the Purifi actually sounds better then the WiiM Amp, at least at higher volume. Since I got the Purifi I‘m absolutely enjoying hearing at higher volume (80dbA is loud for me).
I have a feeling that dynamics are better with the Purifi. But of course purely subjective…

It's a beautiful amp outside and inside, high pride of ownership. And the sound of course must be top notch.

After almost a week of testing I can say that the Purifi is clearly better with my speakers than the WiiM Amp was.
I also can determine the main difference now. With the WiiM Amp, I mostly listened at rather low volume (which sounded great). But when moving up the volume, I became quickly fatigued because I found everything too bright.
Not so with the Purifi - now when turning up the volume the low frequencies become louder as well and this leads to a MUCH more pleasing experience when hearing higher volume which also is MUCH less fatiguing. In fact, cranking up then volume makes a lot of fun now
Maybe this indeed has to do with the difference in power between the two amps. So there actually is a difference in sound between different amps - or at least in their ability to control the speaker, which in turn translates to a different sound.

Perhaps is it known what power supply is used in the Apollon Purifi 1ET7040SA ST Stereo Amplifier? Is it the 1200W Hypex PSU?
I understand that the Audiophonics HPA-S500ET uses a custom 2000W PSU, so then the full specs of 1ET7040SA can be achieved.

AFAIK Apollon uses Hypex PSs only.

Thanks! Then am I right to assume that two 1ET7040SA modules will not be able to reach their rated specs?

BUCKEYEAMPS Hypex NCx500 Amplifier 2channel Review
To clarify, did the review unit not have protection or it did, but if failed to work properly? As I am not a reverse engineer, the only thing I can say is that permanent damage occurred under the test conditions mentioned above. I personally think it's highly likely that wasn't triggered...
