Sadly the above phenomena will convince anyone that this device is "working" because you run it through it and the sound improves. Wish more people would do the test we did which is simply compare one run to another run of LP.
Et tu brute! The play to play variation was not subtle. The sound was more open and just flat out better. To the extent that is attributed to the de-mag, I can see how that would make a lot of believers. Their "ears" was right. The cause and effect was wrong.

Our thread on WBF went on for a long time and no one suggested that possibility until I thought of it. There needs to be more visibility of this factor as it invalidates many observed improvements in LP systems. Cables, amps, etc. would all be fair game to question.
In my book then, no AB test using LP is valid. Even if the person is a diehard LP person, when trying to prove an amp, cable, etc. is better, they need to perform that evaluation using digital sources that are invariant from play to play.
Very much so. Warm up of the cartridge suspension, etc, is a huge factor ... I remember a Benz cartridge in a audiophile club member's very expensive setup which drove sharp nails into my ears for the first record or so - then turned good - what's going on?! That cartridge needs an extended initial playing to stabilise, the owner casually mentioned ...In my book then, no AB test using LP is valid. I don't know why subsequent plays of LP had the effect it did. I would have thought each play gets worse, not better. Maybe there is crud in there that is removed? In our testing Gary was always starting with a fresh, unplayed LP.
You win, they don't even try to state what it does only that you can't quibble !
yep.. 3k for .... FKWYou win, they don't even try to state what it does only that you can't quibble !
And it's more expensive.
