Active Crossover - I can't do this anymore.

I get that the market is small, but growing maybe. The Nad M66 is a step in the right direction. Four sub outputs, phono pre and internal streamer. All they need to do is make it a full 6ch crossover. HT processors give us all way more functionality than any human needs. Yet, preamp manufacturers still make preamps like it is the 1970s (straight wire+gain).

Go industrial, where reliability is paramount. I advocate Q-Sys (or any industrial equivalent).
Hardware is a dedicated Linux box named a Core (various models) Open architecture processor design software on PC is easy to learn. Flexibility nearly beyond belief.

If you have something on the front end to control volume then QSys or BSS BLU or similar does seem compelling.

But yeah, finding something that handles digital and analog inputs, does the crossover/DSP, and controls volume without needing a bunch of extra gear would be a game-changer. At least I hope so

You didn’t mention cost. If that’s not an impediment StormAudio may be the best bet.

With the QSys ability to make custom remotes, I find I don't need any front end volume control from sources.
Well, better said, I find don't even want front end volume control. Because more optimal gain staging has source input signals run at full strength through the the processors functions/filters, and then apply need volume attenuation last step, just prior to amplifier gain. Improves SNR for low level listening.

With QSys an optional license called a UCI (User Control Interface) is needed to make the remotes, which can be put on IOS devices or PC screens.
I assume the others ...BSS, Biamp, Symmetrix, etc...all offer similar remote building capability. But dunno...they may require proprietary touch screens etc)

It's really cool to be able to put any and as many control element into the remote, and also make virtually unlimited preset buttons.
My remotes can get overly large Lol.
