i've pulled e-waste assemblies apart to recycle only their pcbs before. that's the only recyclable bit anyway, and if i don't do it, it will be a child in the developing world who is tasked with disassembly.
also, i can pull interesting/valuable parts off for reuse that way, eg, heatsinks, nice power and signal path caps, etc.
oh, and i would love to see some more baseline measurements of popular AVRs. i think most of us stay away from them because we assume the amp and/or dac section will be inferior to our fan favorites, but the folks that design them have a huge advantage in scales of economy for components and board density in addition to usually having a far superior UI to what we're used to...
