$500 amplifiers to test and review?

My problem with buying more stuff is that I can't test the mountain of gear that is already here, including some amps I have bought. So can't justify buying the Emotiva. If someone wants to buy it and drop ship it to me, I can test it.
Okay, okay. I have an A-100 that is unallocated at the moment and just stumbled across the box when cleaning up the garage. I'll get it packed up and send it over.

Given the high cost of disposal for electronics that might interesting. The township waste hauling service I use wants about $100 per box not to weigh more than 20 lbs. They provide the box. I can't remember the dimensions but, no flat screen TV would fit!
This is a silly (but serious) question - are you allowed to smash up an item to make it fit? lol

Not Sure, but, I think that is not allowed.

i've pulled e-waste assemblies apart to recycle only their pcbs before. that's the only recyclable bit anyway, and if i don't do it, it will be a child in the developing world who is tasked with disassembly.

also, i can pull interesting/valuable parts off for reuse that way, eg, heatsinks, nice power and signal path caps, etc.

oh, and i would love to see some more baseline measurements of popular AVRs. i think most of us stay away from them because we assume the amp and/or dac section will be inferior to our fan favorites, but the folks that design them have a huge advantage in scales of economy for components and board density in addition to usually having a far superior UI to what we're used to...

in fact, most of the nice parts that go on the chinese fan favorites were probably purchased on the spot market out of the remainders of huge component orders for consumer equipment. we have much to thank the consumer world for..

Yamaha as 501?

Hi, did you send that BasX A-100 over to Amir in the end?

See here for a test of the Yamaha AS500, the otherwise identical predecessor of the AS 501, apart from the lack of digital inputs: https://www.avhub.com.au/product-reviews/hi-fi/yamaha-a-s500-amplifier-review-test-395710
Apart from that review it would be interesting to test the AS 500 (or 501,...) in the standardized way that Amirm performs all amplifiers.
Especially to be able to compare the different devices in a direct way spec by spec.
It seems that according to the test you link the amplifier AS 500 is a good device, and more taking into account that in Europe it's easy to find it below € 300

I have not found the AS500 anymore. The AS501 sells for about 350 euro. Below 300 euro (i.e. about 275) there is the 2x60 watt AS301, also with digital inputs.

While I second a review of the AS301/AS501/AS701 series, I have an additional one for comparison: the Onkyo tx-rz820 AVR @ $399..

My hope would be that this unit - with 7 power amps - might actually have a beefy enough PS to adequately drive two-channel stereo with perhaps decent performance.

So it would be tested with line in, stereo 2-channel out. Line in, Bi-amp (4 amps) out also would be interesting.

While digital/toslink in would be interesting, bad performance there would not for me be a disqualifier, as I would use a D10 or similar. So the review could be just 2/4 channel power amps..

$377 each for 1x1,000kW (you'd need two for stereo, obviously)
Obvious, but not accurate. The xxxASP models include power supplies which can power amp-only xxxA models as well. The 500A & 1000A modules are about $100 & $130, respectively.

The 1000ASP and 500ASP are stand-alone PS/Amp full bandwidth modules (as used in Jeffrey Rowlands 501's and 201's, plus JRDG's input buffers).

True, you can hang the A series off of them, but the 1000A series are limited bandwidth modules (e.g. 20Hz to 1KHz) and have higher distortion figures than the ASP modules, thus the request for the 1000ASP and 500ASP module review. The [1000ASP + 1000A] pairing is more targeted for a [full-range speaker + sub] vertical bi-amp configuration, not horizontal stereo.

It seems Hypex has the edge in SINAD and ICEPower may have the edge in power output. The 1000ASP may top the Amplifier 4Ohm Max Power chart to date currently held by the QSC DCA2422.

Cheapest way to get Pascal S-PRO2 modules (also used in D&D 8c)? ~350-380€ per module (~330-350$ ex vat)

Fan only starts at 85C, which is nice. Read some complaints about poor quality input boards (and even passing them).. too bad about selling only in EU for measurements..

Actually I tried giving my US shipito address to amazon.de, and it would happily proceed with the order and even removes VAT..

Order Summary
Items: €318.49
Postage & Packing: €35.67
Order Total: €354.16

So 390$ total for STA-1000D (dunno if there's some import taxes)

@amirm or someone want to purchase for measurement? I'll be happy to donate 20€ :D
