Ahh. Noise cancelling requires a phase shift in either the original signal or the feedback signal.
Could well be the NC is always using the internal amp. All bets are off with such headphones.
Nothing is turned on. I am using it like normal headphones. Jack out from my phone and jack in to the headphones.

Please try https://www.audiocheck.net/blindtests_abspolarity.php yourself and see which is a little punchier. I would like to know too.

Headphone is like this (but a version older) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084MKNGSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_ETKA397XNQFMTZEVQYJZ. I use the line out only and not BT function. I got it for less than $50.

Phone is Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

I'm actually guessing most of the time. Listening using laptop and external speakers

I have done this before on E30 and Khadas Tone Board connected to a Atom and L30 and couldn't tell them apart. Buuuut I just tried with my Galaxy S9 and a Moondrop Starfield.... Yes, the non-reversed is liiittle more punchier mainly at the last notes. 5 of 6 right so far. I'm surprised...

For a while, I was bad too. You just need a little practice to find a consistent difference. ; )
I would say that my laptop's audio system and the external small edifier speakers are not resolving enough. :)

Thanks for the link. I went to http://www.tpdz.net/download and saw no firmware for my version of E30.

I downloaded the one for older e30 to look and didn't see any instructions for check firmware. I am hesitant to actually run the exe to get further information.

Anyway, thanks for helping.

So, did you have a chance to listen to the blind test files? Which one sounded a little punchier at the end?

Thanks!

You can run the exe and you'l see the fw version without flashing new one.
If I remember well, you can see the fw version in About tab of the driver.

Thank you. I tried it. I think I got one with wrong firmware? @solderdude and @JohnYang1997 , should I see V1.08 firmware for my E30 with serial number starts at 2009? Thanks!

Don't trust the phase inversion test sound source on the web too much.
The most reliable test method is to check with your own ears the change in sound quality when + -is switched at the speaker connection terminal. My ears can't detect the change at all.

The most reliable way is to measure impulse response with a fast scope.

Sure, here's a video of me doing it 20 times in a row.

But you're really obsessing over this kinda unhealthily, just measure the output if you are this concerned about it
Don't want to spend money buying extra stuffs. I have no computer that can do loopback. ; )

I didn't know you can listen multiple times before select an answer. I selected my choice all on single play.

So, what do you listen for? Headphones, dac, and amp please?

Thanks!

They make computers without a line-in/microphone in nowdays? I have to see one of those

I'm just using my AKG K712 Pro on whatever. This was on my Fiio X3 III. I could do it on my K5 Pro, soundcard, whatever

If I can't pass the test consistently, why even bother measure?

Again, what were you listening for? It seems it was something early in the song.

Thanks!

what if you record via loopback in Audacity?
I just remember I have Beringer UCA202. Maybe laptop USB out to DAC, DAC RCA out to Beringer, Beringer USB back to laptop?

Once I recorded the song, what do I do next? Compare recorded song to original using Audacity? If so, what do I look for?

Thanks!
