Yeah, not a fan of this "3 box before you get to analog" lark. So you NEED a DAC with it and they would like you to buy a clock box thing too.

Darko will love it! Stick a couple of power filters in there and he'd be in heaven

Yep, the only thing missing is non-plus-ultra linear power supply box for yet another $600.

Also why such a big box if it's just a streamer with no DAC? I'll stick to my Chromecast Audio.

Does Gustard have a web site ? Except (very) old FB profiles, there is no way to find the maker's source.

That's where Google screwed up. If they had put the CCA in a bigger box, with maybe a few extra connections, they could have charged £100s.

Apos sells Gustard, and has a number of components for sale on their site. This S16 is currently not listed but the clock is.

Looks great, finally a streamer with a reasonably big screen. Unfortunately, like many Asian streamers, it misses Spotify. I‘m personally OK with Roon only, but my wife would kill me for taking that out, so I’m on Roopieee.

Really like the idea of a roonready stand alone streamer, as I already have (enough) high quality DACs...
Hope the unit is priced accordingly... Anyway it be nice match with my X16 :p

There is a URL on the back of the unit: www.gustard.cn. Unfortunately it does not (yet?) exist.

Martin
The Gustard website is working right now: 歌诗德官网 (gustard.cn)
Translated with Chrome Google Translate, then found top right can switch to English:
Gustard.JPG

Gustard #2.JPG

Interesting English translation of Gustard: "Gusside":
Song Shi de official website @ interface U16 (gustard.cn)
Also "Gosseed" in some images...
"GUSTARD / "GE Shi de" full name Shenzhen "GE Shi de" Electronics Co., Ltd. "
Song Shi de official website about Song Shi de (gustard.cn)

Latest Products, DACs, more:
Song Shi de official website, ear play, front level, front level. (gustard.cn)
H16 - "Ear Put \ Front Stage"...H20, P26 pages aren't coming up correctly.
Song Shi de official website @ balance ear put H16 (gustard.cn)

Although there is a front scrolling entry for the S16, there is no product page right now.

I was chatting to Gustard support about the S16 streamer yesterday, looks like it will be arriving after the Chineses New Year break.
But it will not be Roon Ready at least not at launch... I presume it will still work with Roon...

When you say "still work with Roon", what do you mean? As in you think Roon will see it as a network device it can control? I wouldnt be sure

Not knocking this product but wouldn't an RPi running Ropieee do the job?

I can’t see paying hundreds for a pretty device to do what a Raspberry Pi does for $50. I run piCorePlayer on mine.

Martin
Yup, why waste all of that extra money on organizing the well designed and engineered components into neat presentable - stackable - little boxes organized by function? It is much better to have all of the internals open and spread out for easy access for tuning and swapping in / out new components:
piqsels.com-id-oyxdh-small.jpg
No more dusting or cleaning time either, simply "turn it on" and it cleans itself!! ;)

In comparison this set up is more difficult to get into the "insides" for tuning and upgrading!:
It all comes down to personal taste, which setup would you rather come home to and live with day to day?

Somewhere in the middle of that first photo is the "seed" - something small like this:
RPi + FifoPi + ESS controller + ES9038Q2M Dual mono DAC HAT + I/V stage board

RPi + FifoPi + ESS controller + ES9038Q2M Dual mono DAC HAT + IV stage board.jpg

And, whatever support hardware is needed to the right..., hardware and wiring for network, audio, power supplies, test gear, keyboard, screen, heater, cooler, lights, etc. Eventually building into the "freewire" environment in the 1st image :)
Large assemblages of "freewire" collections start small...

I work with development tools by day, so when I get home I want to listen to music not work with more breadboards and evaluation kits. Even less so do I want to go through setting up the software and hardware - endlessly tweaking it as updates are available to make it all sound "better".

Since 2011...DiY "RPi + FifoPi + ESS controller + ES9038Q2M Dual mono DAC HAT + I/V stage board " group order:

That "little" pi build keeps getting better and better, bigger and bigger, growing in size and grandeur over time...

Hello, I'm new on this forum and I'm very interested in this soulution - TransportPi + FifoPi + RaspberryPi 4.
I have read that it is working with ropieee or volumio.
I would like to ask what HAT option should be chosen with TransportPi+FifoPi?
for example in ropiee for allo didigone i use digione Audio Output (HAT) but what for TransportPi?Thank you

You only need to select the general I2S device in the software. That's all you need to do.
