WiiM Ultra... Am I missing something?

Amazon Music has the same quality as Tidal and Qobuz.

upsample or real 192k? how to know.... ;-)
96k had already been very very sufficient...
the main qualities of an acoustic recording being of course very far from these stories of resolutions ;-)

It’s amazing g how people can spread a lot of FUD.

You ask if Amazon hi-res is upscaled, subtly implying Tidal is better.

Okay, I can play that game, too.

We know Amazon have three tiers of music - standard (below CD quality), HD (CD quality) and Ultra HD (better than CD quality), so we know they’re not just upscaling everything.

So we know Amazon is proper, not upscale, but can we say the same about Qobuz and Tidal?

‘Backatcha’, as they say.

A PC or other computer driven system is ultimately more flexible and capable of doing more than a prebuilt product like the Wiim
I’d again refute the primacy of a PC when it comes to Amazon Music - a PC can’t produce bit perfect playback of Amazon Music.

Do you know the recording conditions for this disc? the resolution adopted?... me not....
I don't go into the subject amazon tidal qoobuz etc but just the nature of the mastering resolutions...
" stop for me"

I think we were talking about the overall flexibility possible but sure, if you are just concerned about bit perfect playback on Amazon, by all means use whatever is simplest, cheapest and does that best.

That said there are a few interesting Amazon music projects on GitHub so I'd be surprised if it really wasn't possible on a PC. However I've no interest in Amazon music so if you have these and they don't work (yet) I'll happily take your word for it.

Feel free to be as surprised as you like, it can’t be done.

Ah, moving the goalposts.

That is one of the professions which I believed to be full.

So just to recap on where we are, a WiiM Ultra is a waste of time and money if you already have a PC…

…except you won’t be able to play Amazon music but perfect with a PC, and you’ll have to buy an extra 5.1 sound card and two DACs for the latter, and you won’t be able to control it from your phone.

Now I think about, it’s because I don’t want to buy and install a sound card and more DACs, and I want to leave my PC on my desk, and I want Amazon music bit perfect, and I want a really easy user interface on my phone, that I’m getting an Ultra.

This long list of exceptions really is starting to sound familiar.

I mean what did the Romans WiiM ever do for us?

I was looking at the miniDSP Flex as a more direct comparison to WiiM Ultra, which is $500 for the RCA version. Plus the DIRAC option for room correction, led me to the $700-800 quote, also including a mic.

Ultimately the decision will come down to Flex for comprehensive DSP/bass integration control or WiiM Ultra for basic bass management, post-measurement equalization and streaming options, especially for those without the iOS app.
dont foget added cost of umik

The Wiim Ultra is a streamer, a dac, a preamp, an EQ and a headphone amp. I'm getting one as soon as Amazon has them available. It will replace several separate pieces of equipment in my office setup. The Wiim Amp was almost there but didn't include a headphone amp.
For all in one, ☝️ easy going, office setup Yes !

If Wiim could get a good build-in DAC like AK4499 or 9039q2m/pro with a balance XLR, it would be a killer for my Eversolo dmp A8, I found Wiim is very good value at standard point compare to an overpriced product like Eversolo.

For convenience things, no Pc no worries, you can play around with Wiim+Amp or Pre ! For serious sound heads, you can’t expect much from all-in-one! However sound is a subjective topic, depends on your taste.

No, accuracy to the source is entirely objective.

Definitely, you are on the right hit .. it simply fits for your purpose, then Yes !

In my case, I have at least 4 DACs and few Amp with bunch of speakers for critical listening, I would use a Pc to manage all of that rather than just Wiim.

Nothing wrong with using a simple setup like Wiim+amp or pre.

Cheers

is that your Wiim the only one can produce Bit-Perfect while other can’t. Nothing wow about “bit-perfect” ! If it does not ! Don’t buy it, just a normal standard, especially if you are using a cable with an analog system.

The DAC in the Wiim Pro Plus sounds exactly like the DAC in the Eversolo DMP-A6. I have both. I'm sure the DAC in the Wiim Ultra will be just as good. The only advantage the DMP-A6 currently has over the Wiim Pro Plus is a nice display screen. That advantage goes away with the Ultra and the Ultra also gives me a headphone connection and an HDMI input.

I have been switching between XLR and RCA connections. The only difference I hear is that the XLR side is very slightly louder. I have no ground loops issues in my office or living room.

In general, with balance XLR, the voltage is different and higher than RCA (start from 4V compare to RCA from 2V) therefore the volume is more louder and better SNR, dynamic range. With A6,A8 and Wiim, setup them to a good pair of monitor speakers( flat freq), it will tell a different ( sold my Pro+ already)

Unfortunately, I don’t have Eversolo-DMP A6 to compare but I owned DMP-A8 instead. In term of sound however, even my A8 is still lack behind my main setup with Holo May DAC, or my 2nd dac Gustard A26 (ak4499). 3rd with Denafrips Pontus 12 and last with Loxjie D40 Pro ES 9039MS pro (A8 does better sound than this one in some areas). My wife loves A8 because of beauty and easy to use. If Wiim Ultra releases early, I won’t give her A8. ultra has a little nice screen as well

Back to the topic, It’s very unfair to compare Wiim to Ever solo or with separate DACs (higher tier) but I think Wiim is a great value product and to get the job done.Toe to toe, it could possible beat my cheap Dac SMSL Su1(4493s) and definitely win them with ton of features like EQ, Stream, Pre . It designs for easy going music listeners, all-in-one solution. I hope one day it could upgrade the DAC, then it will become a true killer.

I have strong doubts about any DAC sounding better than the DMP-A6 or the Wiim Pro Plus. I also doubt the A8 sounds any better than the A6. Any measurable differences would be in the inaudible range.

The DAC in the Pro Plus is measurably transparent to the course. It can’t sound ‘better’. It can sound different, in which case it wouldn’t be transparent, and subsequently ‘worse’.

Hi guys, I didn't find the information in the forum and I wanted to ask someone if I can send a digital data to dac via the USB port. If possible, can I use the same port as a pen drive reader?

I hope Wiim “Ultra Plus” can add I2S out port or usb out like A8 .. it will be a legend. ^^, …
