Which DAC measurements do you like to see next?

Why did you come to a forum which has science in the title

Because, last time I checked even scientists have subjective opinions.
To think that all that can exist is only what can be measured is not scientific and lacks intellectual humility.

If something cannot be measured, how do you manufacture it? And how do you manufacture it repeatedly and consistently? I am guessing you have never worked in engineering or manufacturing.

I am reassured: our planet is saved :D

I just met two extra-lucid people in the same place in not even an hour ;)

"The science of" <insert anything here> "is well understood"
...until something new is discovered. :D
Yes, someday the magic little Rob Watts entity will be discovered. It is only a few nanometers tall, but produces enormous soundstage, fast transients and other magical stuff. Right now it is still no visible to the measurement devices, but it will be discovered soon!

Anyway, it has already been PROVEN in studies that people can hear the difference.
So I'm not gonna waste time arguing about it or trying to change somebody's mind.

quoting:

"While these were not "blind" tests in the strictest sense, where the set-up was hidden behind a screen, JL played the role of techie, switching the subjects in and out, and the panel was generally unaware of which cap they were listening to at any given time.'

This isn't proof.

To think that all that can exist is only what can be measured is not scientific and lacks intellectual humility.

Ok, both underlines AND bolding, now you'll really make headway.

You are thrashing at this point, and your contributions to this thread are over. Please explore the difference between unsupported claims and evidence. Lots of unsupported claims don't equal evidence, no matter how much you underline or bold things.

I have nothing to gain by trying to change your mind which is prob a futile endeavor anyway.
And here I am thinking We are all thinking the same exact thing about you! We have ourselves a failure to communicate…

Quite true when talking about reality and quantum states etc., but when it comes to an electrical signal coming through a cable we have that sorted. If we didn't most of the modern world around you would not exist. If you want to get really existential nothing exists in a specific state until it is observed/measured and reality is not actually real... but that doesn't have much to do with listening to some music at the end of a hard day on a nice transparent system. Best of luck applying such deep concepts to audio signals.

Like to see measured Antelope Audio Amari, that most of you don't know, is (as per Antelope specs) one of the most performing DAC in the market with unmatched 138 dB of dynamic range.

Hi All, i am new here.
@amirm
can you test Rod Rain DA10?
I'm sure a lot of people like me are wondering about this.

Hello iugurbas :)

About the Rod Rain Audio DA10 DAC:

Curiously, I do not think that this DAC will be measured and presented here: at the price where it is offered and in view of its sound performance and decoding possibilities, it may bother more than one...
... that's a shame :(

However, i do not have enough to measure this DAC but I confirm that it is excellent

On mine, I've made some changes (see orange arrows) but I'm not done yet...

Here's what it looks like so far ->

Détails OPAMPS.jpg

2 x OPAMPS LME 49990 (they are single OPAMS mounted in double on the DIP8 support) for XLR outputs and 1 x OPAMP OPA 1656 for RCA outputs ;)

Regards.

hi @ICIETDYIEUR ,
i saw your on aliexpress comments and i follow your work on this product with interest. if i buy the product i will replace the opamps first and chasis - earth connection.

Hello iugurbas :)

You are on the path of wisdom ;)

The grounding of the chassis will put you in safety and the replacement of the original low-end OPAMPS and especially not adapted to the I/V conversion circuit at the output of DAC will bring you an increase in musicality with very good components (*) that will work in better conditions

These two modifications are very simple and do not require special knowledge, you just have to pay attention to the direction of the OPAMPS which are usually identified by a dot and / or a notch.

There is also a small screen print on the electronic board (PCB) to avoid making a mistake.
If in doubt, don't hesitate to ask for help here ;)

Here are the locations in question ->

Sans titre.jpg

(*) 1 x OPA 1656 (FET) and 2 x AD 797 (BIPOLAR)

Warning: for this last reference (AD 797) it is necessary that there are 2 OPAMPS mounted in duplicate on a 'DIP 8 adapter' as you can find > HERE <

Regards.

It's great members want to see various DAC's tested... however worth noting that those members need to buy one and arrange to send it in to Amir. Otherwise, unless the company sends one... it's likely not going to happen.

Hello JSmith :)

(It' about the Rod Rain Audio DA10 DAC)

I understand very well but I live in France so it seems quite complicated to me... :(
