why did they do this?
it somehow worked with my TC-Elctronics interface, but my Motu revealed there is some strange going on

I'm confused that this cable ever worked?!

me too. I remember there are diferent styles of balanced outputs. however, I hate that it worked on the other interface because now I can't realy give it back after all the time lol. But I hope I can fix it

How could they have messed this up so badly

that's what I am asking. I think it could be something you would do to transform balanced into unbalanced (XLR-TS)? maybe they confused the cables.
I sure as hell will dubble-check my cables from now on lol

nahh...I don't need to learn everything. knowing how to QC them now is good enough hahaha

didn't find the cable locally, so I got a new conector. this time I didn't destroy it at least lol. they say it has to be pretty? well, function over form for me I guess hahaha
