What size of stranded conductors are best for mains cable to connect the amps etc

I am looking to replace my stock power chords and was wondering what size of conductors to use. The normal mains stranded cables are 2.5mm(Sq). Is there any benefit to using thicker cables, like 3.5mm(sq) for example.

I have several amps all connected to a power distributor Strip, I replaced the cable for this strip with a thicker one Supra one that I bought at the Hi End Show. I have not noticed a huge obvious sonic improvement but then I did not really expect that. I suppose the improvements will be more subtle than obvious.

I am now looking at replacing the stock power cables that came with all these devices, we are talking several meters of length of cable.

Since this is a space for Audio Science, what is the science behind using thicker cables? Are there any benefits and are there any disadvantages, apart from $$$ cost?

I'm just interested in the scientific reasoning here for this post.

Many thanks

None, really. If your power cord is adequately sized (which the supplied cords will be), changing them does nothing other than cost you money.

So long as the power cable is suitably rated for current and voltage, meets local safety standards and is not faulty, it really shouldn't make any difference. This assumes the house wiring meets proper standards, and there isn't anything outlandish going on. The job of the power supply is to take the mains input, including the expected voltage variations, noise and so on, and turn it into whatever the rest of the equipment needs to perform properly. If the mains cable makes a difference then the designer has failed, and I would look at replacing the equipment not the cable.

Your AC power cord actually starts at that big power company transformer down the street. Maybe 200 meters away. So just making 2 meters of it larger, won't matter.
Just make sure that 2 meter doesn't set fires off

No. Save your money for something useful or what makes fun.
