Would you like to see Amir spend his time, efforts, money, etc. on more stringent amp testing or on more speakers tested? For this thread, it's an either/or proposition.

Amir is going to be constrained by what becomes available to test, circumstances and possibly controversy, what happens on the headphones/IEM front where testing standards seem in flux.

I think this poll is presumptive.

Regardless of equipment type, I would prefer to see more thorough testing for accurate compliance rather than an increased number of tests.

This opinion is primarily based on ease of use from a consumer perspective, enabling straightforward 1:1 comparisons with the manufacturer's specifications and offering a way to challenge manufacturers' justifications for various claims and discrepancies between specifications and test results.

I voted speakers, but there is one additional thing I would like to see in amp tests: Power consumption values in "standby" + "idle" + "typical use" (like maybe 10W pink noise).

Maybe include the link in the opening post so that people know right away where this is coming from?
I was going to, but chose not to, in order to leave this more agnostic than that "highly charged" debate link. Members that are following the link can vote but those that aren't aware, offer an "untainted/uninfluenced choice. However, anyone else is free to post that link, with their reason why, if they choose to do so.

EDIT: I decided to post on that thread with a link to this poll.

I would vote speakers but the speakers I want to see (big-ish 3-ways) will probably not show up (it's justified, too much hustle)
So amps,preferably full size ones.
BIG, HEAVY amps have about the same chance of being reviewed as BIG, HEAVY speakers... just guessing. Perhaps the membership can fund an ASR space station! (Damn Gravity...)

I think that handling those stuff is an art as any heavy-lifting.
I've been in gatherings with friends to demo such amps and speakers by dealers and they make it seem easy, even up and down stairs (they have a smart thingy to carry them which does stairs too)
Same with audio shows,I see them carrying around casually.

Of course it's not the same as lifting a 100kg speaker on the Klippel

DSP room eq systems, and not for SINAD but for functionality.

Agreed. I'd like to see a review assessing the effectiveness of the variants of automatic room correction available on the market.

Hi

Taking a stab at this. I believe electronics are a solved problem: You need 200 wpc?, $300 later you get an Aiyima. You need a transparent DAC? $10 later, you get the Apple dongle or equivalent.. Streamer? $250 WiiM ... EQ ?. your PC... This one could be free...

OTOH, transducers are not so clean-cut... These remain a foggy, greyish area...

I would suggest to continue with testing electronics (We have discovered so may gems, because of that) but to focus a bit more , say 65/35 , split on transducers

Peace.

Given the growing availability of gear offering Parametric EQ, the 'product review' that most interests me is a review uncovering another competitively-priced, passive loudspeaker that is amenable to correction via Parameric EQ.

Shipping costs both ways, make 100kg anything less likely to be reviewed, was the unstated portion of equating the probability of Amir's review. ;) Also, I'm sure that you've noticed that Amir complains every time that he deals with a particularly heavy amp/speaker... and I don't blame him a bit... lol.

I'd love to see a review of MathAudio RoomEQ. It's free for use on Windows with Foobar2000, so shouldn't be too much trouble to carry out.

Comparison with other DRC software would be an added bonus.

Perhaps we shouldn't always use extreme examples. :)
Most Class A/B amplifiers I consider heavy weigh well under 20 kg. Only the more esoteric audiophile models tend to exceed that weight.

Since @Sokel used that weight in post #11... and from following his posts for a long time... I suspect that he is one such esoteric audiophile and was asking from self interest? You should quote him... not me... I think Amir's Mark Levinson's are 150 lbs each, or thereabouts?

Im sure Amir can afford to set up his own space station testing lab. But the cost of members shipping things up to him will be a real b***h.
