THX Onyx Review (headphone adapter)

@MGRMLN Try plugging it into another computer/phone/tablet.
If multiple computers cannot recognize it, then the issue is likely the Onyx.
If only your MacBook cannot recognize it, then the issue is likely your MacBook.

Hello all,

Recently, my THX Onyx dongle just stopped being recognized by my MacBook Pro 16.
I plus it in and it basically is ignored by the computer and does not show up as a DAC or even a USB device at all.
Tidal, Roon and Apple Music do not see it either.
Any idea what is going on?

Thanks in advance!

Just thought the same thing!
Tried another Mac and it could not see it either.
I think the dongle has failed.
I contacted THX about it.

Thanks!

The same thing happened to me. Did you receive any response from the THX?

Make sure you have headphones or something plugged into the THX Onyx. At least for me on macOS 14, it won't show as an audio device until I plug headphones into it.

If that doesn't work, you might try a firmware update or the troubleshooting advice here: https://www.thx.com/thx-onyx/support/

It still shows up in task manager though usually.
However it isn't a bad suggestion as people forget with these dongles sometimes.

What is from your phone or from your computer? In my experience it delivers more power connected to a computer that can deliver more current.
Using MacBook Pro M1 with power supply connected.
