50 years ago another irwin allen masterpiece disaster movie played at cinemas with towering proportions
two actors had their name billing placed higher or lower on the opening titles and poster and wanted equal amounts of dialog , i kinder like McQueen , as the fire chief he seemed convincing in the performance , john williams opening score is really good
practical models accompanied with matte paintings made the fictions glass tower , really look like the tallest building in the world or least tallest over the San Francisco skyline
saw the movie with my Dad , i guess maybe fan of one of the actors ? movie had intermission when gas leak in the stairway explodes that left it at a kinder saturday morning serial cliffhanger ! few minutes into the intermission heard this deep rumbling sound that drew my attention upwards , looking all around unable to pinpoint , oh must be that movie in screen 1 , earthquake and those large words on the poster " sensurround " wow got check that out next week , which of course was wow !

in twenty years or so studios tried to remake this classic movie that never got green lighted which it doesn't as it stands on its own a classic that doesn't need atmos or cgi 3d

towering-inferno-13890.jpg

playing the towering inferno with five screen speakers L Lc C Rc R , wow the sound is very wide spread behind the screen , with occasional dialog being panned to left right or the innner Lc/Rc channels and centre of course ,

i may do this again
microphone at one position in the room then moving it backwards to see any changes where mostly between narrow range of 40Hz and gradual increases around narrow range 25/30Hz and 80/90Hz , tiny variances below 20Hz

What is your atmos preamp since the sale of your STORMAUDIO and DENON?

That's some very impressive bass extension all the way down to 10Hz as well as very flat in room response!

Hi Andy a friend is going to make himself an atmos room with 9 x JBL 8330, the room is 12m2, do you think it's not too small the room size?

so if i understand using x9 also for the LCR its doable but if its x9 for the overhead as well will leave an odd number speaker ?

if rows of seats are used two speakers in front of first row with second pair speakers slightly behind first row with third row of speakers behind back row seating
that's x6 speakers , with x2 more for back surrounds and with ninth speaker i guess for middle centre back surround ?

or is it one speaker each sidewall and one pair for back wall , that's x4 that leaves x4 more for overhead and the ninth speaker for ?

if those was cheap great , another user with real cinema surrounds or speakers used for surrounds

if i was him , i get few more 8330 not sure which model 8330 mkI mkII or A ,
8330 mkI/II are heavy to install where 8330A is bit lighter weight

i'm looking out for x2 more 8330 mkII and x6 8330A

laserdisc , true lies 1994 , THX/TAP dts , lucasfilm ltd THX sound system
429980657_10161128462780149_1114691712738896201_n.jpg

not played the disc on the new JBL screen speakers since installed few years ago , bass heavy , i can feel it against my chest in my stomach

picture is bit lousy with EE and overdone contrast , colours look a bit overdone but its watchable , the sound mix delivered in dts should carry a warning sticker
i'm not up for the 4k when released as it be only another near field mix where the mix on laserdisc is theatrical mix and its only watched now and then every once few years

i improve those overheads with additional pro-logic IIx decoders , pro-logic is okay it produce new centre middle between each height 1 2 3 4 5 ( depending on how many are used for overhead ) ?

$200 for cheap onkyo AVR that has PLIIx decoder connect the overhead surround outputs from main processor to

height 1 connected to PLIIx L R connected to the usually LR with centre connected to new middle speaker placed between LR a sort of LCR basically that is it
height 2 connected to PLIIx repeat the same
height 3 connected to PLIIx repeat the same
height 4 connected to PLIIx repeat the same
height 5 connected to PLIIx repeat the same
the AVR amplifers often between 160watts 210watts would be more than enough power

the extra outputs on the PLIIx side surround and rear surround can be placed somewhere maybe else on ceiling sidewalls on the floor , " experimentation "
there are multiple of tracks mono or stereo with each track overlay may have some type of effects processing or something going on within the signal a PLIIx decoder will extend the sound

additionally audyssey can be used and should be or , ( can't use any EQ ahead of the PLIIx it will mess up decoding EQ )

some atmos mix , few and far between use a good use of stereo overheads where others i noticed mono the signal maybe phantom imaged between the speakers ,
