This goes back to the maker's claim that so many testifying to the positive effects of his device is proof itself that it works. The maker doesn't know why it works just that it does (or so he claims). Yet when in the same exact manner a firmware update was done, and many start saying how it sounds less good, that isn't proof it is less good. That doesn't matter. Have your cake and eat it too.

I don't think you quite understand the research. The research also matches any intuitive understanding about loudspeaker design if you actually take the time to think about it.
