I stopped after reading this opening remark

"Traditionally, buying a speaker is like buying a sweater. In the case of the sweater, you pick a style you like, and your only subsequent decisions involve size and color."

Is this possibly everything that is wrong with these reviews in a sentence ?

Sorry if the rest is more informed, I just couldn't get past this !

Yes .. I cannot be held responsible for content!

Mea culpa pure unadulterated marketing, but if it helps you choose a nice sweater…

Personally I want a sweater that adds warmth and gives me inky black backgrounds!

I prefer to think of my speakers more like a large-collared leather pimps coat from the 70's. Big, heavy, loud and funky.

Most likely disliked intensely by my neighbours. YMMV.

Perhaps we just repurpose the thread to - best knitware analogies for speaker selection

Nice to see another review of this fantastic speaker.

I can only hope D&D will bring out more models, at higher and lower msrp.

Some new information though:

Additionally, more plug-ins for the 8c are in the works. “We’re currently focusing on supporting more streaming services. Besides that, we’re working on integration with gear from other manufacturers (think music servers and streamers) as well as audiophile media players,” Mensink told me. “We are also in early talks with parties that make room-correction software. RoomMatching as a part of today’s 8c works really well, but we’re open to the idea of using the Dutch & Dutch platform for other approaches.”

Ofcourse the news of the streaming services was known already. But new, for me atleast:

- Integration with external gear (music servers and streamers)
- Room-correction software, easier alternative for REW I guess? Probably integrated

It is commendable that D&D have continually developed the 8C, Roon ready, wasn’t sure at one point if it ever would be ready.
Spotify Connect now too of course, RMS, REW integration and now the ability to offer third party plug-ins.
Sound quality has always remained excellent.

Personally I far prefer this one,

Has everyone downloaded the latest firmware 2.6.40 that includes ‘sleep’ options?

Hilarious considering the 8C's have been around since 2017-18, and TAS is just getting around to reviewing them. Almost as ridiculous as them naming the Linkwitz LX-521 their 2023 speaker of the year, when it's been around since around 2014 or earlier. I guess if there are no ad dollars coming from the manufacturer TAS almost never reviews. BTW, TAS never reviewed the Apogee Original Ribbon or the Scintillas, ever, but somehow managed to review 8-10 Magnepan models. And there are a whole host of other cutting edge designs and manufacturers they've completely ignored over the decades. They can't even be condemned the same way Stereophile is condemned for placing both cutting edge and snake oil designs in the same performance tier, because most of the cutting edge stuff is wholly ignored by them.
