Hello guys, I work in film and tv audio post production (Dialogue editing, sound design,foley...) and currently looking to buy a new set of studio monitors suitable for my work. I was using the Adam audio T7V but now i moved to a smaller room and looking for an upgrade. i'm looking for 4" or 5" sizes since my room is not that big (4m x 3.5m).
would like to know your recommendations and suggestions. Initially I was lost between Genelecs 8020,8030 and Neumans KH80 and KH120, but really open to any suggestion.

It’s hard for us to say as it sounds like you would have some specific professional requirements. Without knowing what those are it is hard to specify a system.

For what it’s worthy, Neumann KH 80 is extremely compact, accurate, and powerful for desktop use and easy to work with. It must be paired with a sub for full range response.

You might need a bigger higher SPL system though.

Depends on how loud you wanna go, and at what distance :)

That's always the kicker for me. Everything's fine until I'm doing theatrical premix or running something for a director at 85 and the aliens come down and nuke the planet.... and my bass drivers.

If you don't ever need that, then KH120 seems like a good choice. Add sub(s) if budget allows.

JBL 705 may be another relatively robust option for something small. Oh, this one might sound stupid but the Kali IN5 is also a speaker I'm sure I could happily mix on, despite it's lower price point.

Lastly, are you sure you want/need to go down to a 4 or 5 inch driver though...?

Oops... didn't realise this was quite an old thread. Ah well.

@Jay20 did you get new monitors yet?

Genelecs are the standard for film mixers, generally.
