Isn't the term: The Eccentric Englishman seen as something, in principle, positive in England? I thought so anyway.:)

Not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but the English were pioneers in class D amps. Sinclair even made a few using germanium transistors; which considering how bad those transistors were by modern standards, worked surprisingly well.

Clive Sinclair was a genius!
Pioneered the pocket calculator, the digital watch, the first portable system TV that worked anywhere in the World. Had all three when they came out, the least known perhaps is the TV? Travelled to many countries with it a nice piece of kit. A scientific star with little business acumen.
