Paris Audio Video Show 2023​

Hey Folks,

A couple of weekends ago took place the latest edition of the Paris Audio Video Show. As usual, it was a great time to meet some friends there and walk around together, but not so much to properly listen to systems. I went on Sunday 22nd October and the overall mood is that it was a bit less overcrowded than the 2022 edition. Still, listening conditions in many rooms were most likely mediocre, either because of acoustics, listening position, or overall ambient noise.

It was, again, virtually impossible to demo all rooms and brands presented. This would have taken another half of a day. For this year, I will focus on a simple (and uncommented) photo tour of the systems I was able to see and listen to. I enjoyed shooting gears despite the terrible light conditions and left the place with quite a few pics that you will find a selection below.​

Very frustrating since the Perlisten weren't playing the time I was in the room...

I tho gave a short listen at the regular S7t (also with M23 amps) last year and they sounded very good, indeed.

Very frustrating since the Perlisten weren't playing the time I was in the room...

Was not good, too much insisting bass, probably due to a bad setup in this room.

Yep, I've seen it. Yet, I still publish a dedicated thread with my own photography tour, as I did for the three last editions by now.

@VintageFlanker - what systems stood out for you?

Sadly, none really. Biggest surprise was the Dyptique for me. Very deep extension for the such thin electrostats-like ("isodynamique"). Big soundstage, didn't sound too harsh. Another surprise was the SF Stradivari, that did not sound bright like most SF speakers. Was mostly good, but I would never spend 50k€ for of pair of these.

Nice to see the market appears to be thriving in mainland Europe and thanks for sharing all those pics. So much expensive 'bling' on show, but I wonder how much of it reproduces music with any degree of accuracy?

I see Chord Electronics playing into *passive* ATC's. I've heard the dreadful thick punchy but bland sounds this brand pairing gives in a local show here (mind you, Chord and Wilson Benesch wasn't very good either) and I suspect the sound wouldn't be as 'Hifi' and 'impressive' as other similarly prices exhibits so maybe self defeating.

Very few, indeed. But it is always hard to tell the factors, the systems themselves or their acoustic environment. Another thing I observe with years, is that the more High End the speakers are, the more coloration you get (sometines to awful levels). This, apart from very few exceptions.

So no cables lifters in sight this year and less amps on the ground... which is good, things are improving.
