hi,
i have a question regarding using the bass management in the bluos in conjunction with my yamaha avr.
i did the ypao thing for the streaming/video setups. the default settings on the sub were pwer at 50% and rolloff in the middle (roughly 120hz). i have my speakers set to small, with a xover at 90hz set on them.
for movies/tv etc (through chromecast hdmi) everything sounds fine.
i also have a bluesound Node 2i that i use for streaming. for audio, i'd prefer to use the yamaha "pure direct" mode. by doing so, i lose the sub altogether. i have it sending audio to the receiver via rca outs.
i tried plugging a sub rca cable from the back of the node into the sub. the only "bass management" their os has is to enable the sub and set a xover frequency. there are two things going on with that which are puzzling.
1. the volume from the sub itself is way too loud. the sub gain knob is barely on and the bass is pretty overwhelming. if i turn it almost off it is acceptable, but that loses the info that the receiver set in ypao. that's probably to be expected, but it's not ideal.
2. more of a problem with this is that the sub's volume doesn't match the receivers. if i turn the volume of the receiver way down, the sub only decreases volume a little and quickly overpowers the eq. i don't know if i went coax out from the node 2i to the receiver would make a difference with that. the sub info would still be independently be sent from the node.
i think i'm going to have to abandon the sub out from the node for music, and rely on the "straight" mode from the receiver, if i'm going to want the most accurate bass from the sub. straight seems to narrow the soundstage quite a bit with this receiver. i could just listen to the music with the pure direct mode and get used to no sub with audio, too.
if anyone has a viable workaround, i'd love to hear it.
thanks
