There is
But still Focal , Dynaudio , Genelec and practically anyone else update their drivers after such a long period
If these meet their performance objectives.. Why should they? Building things means at times, to reuse available and trusted parts, components or techniques. Innovation takes many forms. That tendency to equate innovation with changing parts is misguided. Let's not project out our FOMO...

Peace.

10 years isn't that long in tranducer years. Sennheiser has been making the same headphone driver for 30 years. The Seas DXT is over fifteen years old.

i think moving to ribbon tweeters have been the "big thing" for many companies including Adam.
AMT is not the same as ribbon tweeter.

Are you back to your "change for the sake of change"? I feel that if you ever get Genelec speakers you will be very disappointed. I suspect you have built this up in your head way too much.

No cardioid radiation, otherwise we'd definitely know about it. I think there are only 3 true cardioid speaker companies: Kii, D&D and Geithan. I'm surprised Genelec with its software expertise doesn't have one in development.
W371 is cardioid, probably one of the best and most flexible implementations out there. If you consider Geithan true cardioid, then Siberg Manta is also a cardioid. Mesanovic offerings are *kinda* cardioid.

So would you say actives are just a gimmick? A 2k active system would be better sounding than a 2k complete passive system? For home use that is, say in a 18-20sqm room, 2m listening distance
Actives are most definitely NOT a gimick!!!!

The domestic market has got itself into the classic audiophool upgrade syndrome, where a better source, better amp and better speakers keep the corporate wheels turning and dealers in business ever hopeful of an 'upgrade' sale.. The thing is, if you buy a modern active solution, usually with specialised electronics built in, it's all done for you. The general domestic audio market has yet to accept this and also, the room acoustics are largely ignored, this aspect being dealt with by mixing and matching the gear excessively, rather than sorting the room itself out at source as best as possible!

So yeah, with careful choices, a £2k active system should *potentially* out perform (and sound better/clearer) than a same price passive. Just my take - and I speak as one who's got a good passive system but not the funds or current inclination to sell it all and return to active at least until we move house which has been threatened for some good while now but which will happen in the next few years at most...

Interesting.
I had dinner recently with an old friend who did all the modelling and prototyping the BMR as a consultant to NXT.

He told me the patent expires soon and he thinks a lot of people will use it because the technology is excellent but people wouldn’t pay the license fee.
We’ll see!
Damn patents!!

-It has a compression driver-midwoofer coaxial sitting inside a deep horn.
-2 or 4 mid dome drivers are beam steering to control lobbing in the directivity.
-It has 2 woofers, one large midwoofer to make midbass loudness match with the loudness of the compression driver. Another driver to give speakers sub bass extension.
This.

I am guessing 4 midrange drivers and 2 bass drivers in addition to the 2 coaxial drivers of The Ones as shown by @gr-e. The second bass driver would be positioned in the back (at the top?) similar to the W371 to help cancel the null modes of the rooms. The 4 midrange drivers would give complete control of the directivity up to 3000 Hz or more:

How huge will this thing be? The W371 is already a 140 liters, 60 kg system.

It's It was in the image title.

Yeah they changed the link. The old image is still available though: http://images.ctfassets.net/4zjnzn0...023_8381_Livestream_invite_WEB_1250x703px.jpg

So that's a coaxial, as the name suggests, maybe with a compression driver this time? Hard to see.
The use of different woofers suggests that it has a system similar to W371 integated.

These do not look like ports. But multiple mids will be very surprising.
