Navigation in threads on mobile devices

Hi

When on the forum on a phone and entering a multiple page thread, you currently have to scroll to the buttom to access the different pages in the thread.

Is it possible to make this page selection appear on top of the thread instead?

At least on a tablet, the nav bar should appear at both ends, like it does here on a Tab S5e:

Same on an iPad, but not on an iPhone. I suspect the top page navigator vanishes when the screen gets small enough to make the menu fold up into the three bar drop down top left...

On an iphone it looks like this when scrolled down to the bottom of the page. You can tap the page numbers in the middle to go to any page.


I agree that it would be very useful to have that navigation at the top of the page if it were possible to do.

EDIT : This seems to be browser agnostic. Just tried it on a desktop google based browser (Brave) and it worked there also.

Yeah, I suppose it does work and good detective work!

But finding the bookmark and selecting it is a bit cumbersome in relation to having the selections at the top. And this is only on my iPhone I find that scrolling to the bottom is something I find myself doing quite a lot to get to the page selection section.

Most times when I enter a thread (on iPhone) it doesn't show the first page and to get to the front page I need to scroll down to the end and select the "<<" button to get to page 1 where I want to start reading.

Yep, same here (Chrome on a Pixel 6a). I assume the intention is "continue reading from the page you previously reached - don't jump around the thread".

And the scrolling down to bottom takes 2 sec. as well. It's just not that convenient.

It's a workaround. Not a user friendly solution.

Instant for me: Probably device/browser specific. But yes, I did introduce the idea as a workaround (I specifically used that word). We don't have the ideal solution at the moment.

No belittling of your suggestion at all. It is great of you to chime in so quickly with a workaround! -It's just, as you say, not ideal.

How strange, I was about to post this exact request yesterday but got distracted.

I think it can be done, as other forums I visit that appear to use the same platform have it at the top as well as the bottom.

Headfi uses Xenforo and has page navigation at the top on mobile. Not sure which versions each forum uses though.
