They're part of the same extended social networks and talk to the same people and listen to the same influencers and read the same marketing BS. Not much of a mystery.
Because one signals loyalty to a group by loudly professing belief in its fictions. The more ridiculous the fiction, the stronger the loyalty demonstrated to the group. Anybody can believe proven facts. Believing obvious bullshit marks you as truly loyal. Just like anyone can get a henna tattoo on their ass, the trustworthy ones tattoo their face permanently.

(google "inward apologetics Less Wrong" and/or "Elephant in the Brain group fictions", or read this https://wisewords.blog/book-summaries/the-elephant-in-the-brain-book-summary/ and here https://www.overcomingbias.com/p/beware-inward-apologeticshtml)

As Feynman said, 'the easiest person to fool is yourself'.

As I said upthread, 'people in groups mostly suck'

We've had this posted just yesterday:

It basically boils down to what @DonR mentioned above. Age-old tiered arguments that we've heard all before, dressed up in a nice sob story about feelings.

Just like with almost every aspect in life there are always people that don't agree for whatever reason they might have.

Signal fidelity ≠ perceived sound quality
When signal fidelity is more than 'good enough' there can still be differences perceived. That does not mean these are related to signal fidelity but are of different origin.
Enter the apology "you can't measure everything".
The problem here is:
  • not everything is measured
  • not all required measurements are always performed
  • not everything that is measured is measured correctly
  • not all measurements are good enough in accuracy/resolution
  • not all measurements results are interpreted correctly
  • psycho-acoustic aspects of measurement results often are not taken into account/displayed
  • discrepancy between measurements an perception has multiple factors

Cultural groups assemble intricately constructed narratives that are presented/accepted as agreed realities, using facts and distortions. There are many attributes to these agreed constructs, outrageousness-as-loyalty is only one of them. This group likes to posit others as uniquely credulous, of course. When we veer off into areas outside core expertise, like AI, otherwise intelligent people here spout obvious gibberish and appear quite attached to saying really dumb things, like stating that generative LLMs have "knowledge" of things. We can tear strips off this nonsense, but usually we don't, because those people are our group, and we accept vernacular characterisations when it suits us.

Once everyone who ever visits this thread agree that measurements are everything, then it would stop. But then what is left to argue?
What’s left is mainly people joining newly ignorant or not knowledgeable of the facts.

Not knowing is ok, no one can know everything. It gets tiring when people refuse to learn.

The new joiners also has the same mindset. From their point of view, they are also sure they know it from their experience and they want to “teach” the forum about the forum is wrong. So it will never end.

This is AudioScienceReview, not AudieExperienceReview. If they come to teach, they should come to teach science, otherwise not be surprised to get backlash.

They are missing one key ingredient: proof that they hear what they claim they hear. If they provide it, it might be interesting to know what they think about the causes.

It's like somebody want's to teach other about the habits of invisible immaterial pink unicorns that reside in our living rooms. Why would anyone want to listen?

@Bozon since last week, did you have a chance to share delta wave files ( from the test you've shared or newer ones) with at least @pkane or any other members?

It will never end as long as people come here trying to pass off " their experience" as relevant to anything but themselves. If it never ends so be it, after all there are still flat earthers trying to teach, science has a long history of dealing with this crap.
