Question....
JBL 530s
Denon AVR 3600 vs. avr w/ multi channel amp..

Significant difference you think?

Unlikely, as the speaker will IME run out of mechanical headroom (specifically in the woofer) well before max power.

no they are fairly easy to drive to decent spl.... don't sweat this, also they sound good with my entry level avr if that's a concern.. they don't "need" higher end power...i too worried about all this b4 i got them ... turned out to be needless anxiety....

Don't set the AVR to 6 ohms. Leave it at 8.
Can you explain please..
I thought since FCR are 6ohm I should reset avr... Thank you!
So when would you set avr to 6 ohms?

no .. it's not needed, those avr impedance ratings are mostly for regulation compliance.. my low end yamaha hardly gets warm with the 530's ...another thing that can help.. get a little $11 fan to sit on top of the avr if it gets warm....ac infinity fans keep my other mid level avr from overheating while i crank up my other (much harder to drive ) emotiva b1s (modded by Dennis Murphy)

So what if the choice is for 6 ohms vs 4 ohms, as some do?

Can you give a specific model with these options? Is it default/6/4, or are the only two options 6 and 4? At any rate, leave it (or put it) at the highest selection.

Not gonna search for ya but have seen examples of just a 6 or 4 option for settings, so yes the higher one is better was the point....

This may be helpful to someone else. I wrote Harman some time ago to know what crossover to use between the JBL 530 Studio and 550P. THis is what they responded:

Thank you for contacting Harman Support.

Your case was endorsed to us, Audio Specialist in regards to the recommended crossover frequency of your Sub 550P and your Studio 530 and you don't have to worry as we will try our best help you out. Let start with your sub as the highest frequency that you can set it for it is 150Hz but you are using LFE, the source of it will dictate it. For that, we recommend to have the Studio 530 set to 151Hz - 1.5kHz as it is the highest it set as a recommendation. Hopefully, this helps you out and if you have other concerns, feel free to contact us back. Thank you and have a great day!

Did you post that to show just how confusing their advice is? o_O
Yes and no. I clarified later on that 150Hz is the low/mid crossover and 1.5kHz is the mid/high crossover. In the end it was useful to me so I figured it may help someone here.

It's still confusing to me. When you say that 150Hz is the low/mid crossover, are you referring to the subwoofer to bookshelf crossover? If so, 150Hz is unusually high and not commonly recommended.

As for 1.5kHz being the mid to high crossover, that is fixed by the internal crossover in the speaker and can't be changed (unless one takes apart the speaker).
