My pairs are not bright or hash.

mine either, i get no "bright" sound unless the recording is very top end heavy...edit: i can hear the "forward" crossover region ....but it's really not overwhelming by any standard...

Yup, peoples ears are different, especially when we age..........lol. Yup, as had been mentioned, acoustics play a part in quality listening. For me........I can stand neutral speakers. lol

To all of you still having the 530, here is a simple external crossover mod I did that I posted separately, but I am also posting it here:

The mod can be done externally easily or better internally by opening the back terminal plate and do it inside but without taking all the speaker apart.
We have 0.5mH in series with the woofer terminal, and 2.7 Ohm in series with 22uF and in series with the tweeter terminal.

Some first listening tests are promising comparing to the KEF R3.

Just got a pair of these in mint condition and on initial listening I can say not bad at all! The bass hits much harder than I was expecting..Have them a foot out from the wall.

There is something quite different about the sound compared to my other speakers. The way the vocals integrate sounds more "live" for lack of a better term.

I tend to agree , they do project sound out into the room ("forward" sound) without a trace of "brightness".. it's definitely unique and fun...

i apply with camilla dsp the spinorama equalisation with high shelf 5000hz -2db , the result is more relaxed sound. also i use 2 woofers filtres at 200hz, to have more extended bass and spl.
