JBL 705P / 708P

I have recived the mindsp flex htx. I tried the 705 as centre With the 708 as L&R. My listening position is 2.5m from the centre. The 705 hight passed at 80hz handle it perfectely. ! Until now no red clip what so ever. Amazing what this small box can do.

Hmm... should I get a used 705P for $350 + tax and shipping?

Plan is to make it the C in my LCR between two 708P, and then use my other two 705P as satellites in a 5.1. If I do this, I'm going to mount it above the TV, aiming down.

I did that for a wild and then replaced the center 705p by a 708i. It was Just because I found a good deal. I finally bought a second 705p for my desk setup but it really made a great job as a center channel. No complains at all for me. 350$ for the powered version is a steal. How far will you be from the center? Are your 708p mounting or are they on stands?

My 2nd 708P quietly stopped working. 2nd LED went solid green, no sound. Manual says solid green is custom settings, but I have everything at default. Power cycled and it changed to solid red which the manual says is related to digital signal - I am using analog. Manual troubleshooting step says to try factory reset but doesn't say how (I figured it out).

No more JBL speakers for me. Terrible usability. Garbage QC.
Hello, hope all is well. I have a similar situation. I bought a sealed pair of 705p on eBay. One is working just fine the other is stuck with a green light saying 705p. I tried to factory reset but it seems like I doesn’t do anything. We’re you able to fix yours? I would really have to pay another $400 (Jbl quote) to fix a monitor I just opened. Any advice would be appreciate! Thanks

So they won't stand behind the factory warranty? Sad.
That's why I'll never buy powered speakers.
Bummer

After a couple of years of use, one of my JBL 705P's gets loud pops and crackle sounds when powered on, I've swapped them left to right and tested disconnected from audio source so I've verified it's the speaker, or more specifically the amp/board inside. They are out of warranty.

Anyone have a source on replacement amp/boards on these?

If not, I might sell the 1 good speaker alone, then the faulty one for parts and just buy something else.

Truly annoying.

It's all a crapshoot, regardless of source.
I purchased replacement amp boards from eBay and had JBL repair/replace a board.
The factory one failed just after the included 1-year warranty extension died. The eBay lasted a hair longer.
The support rep I emailed said they couldn't do anything. I suggested sending me the passive xover parts to convert my 708p into a 708i. Then they went silent.

Prosoundservice.com had the replacement amp/DSP assembly; it replaces all of the electronics. Super easy to swap (at least on the 708p).

They were cheaper if ordered directly on the website.

Thanks Bugal. Looks like the amplifier assembly is $471 and I'm a little unclear whether that includes the DSP module and other boards in the back
At that price I might be better looking for a replacement speaker and selling mine for parts/non-functioning to reclaim a bit of funds.

But I will give this some thought. I could also swap the DSP modules between speakers to figure out if it's the amp board or the DSP part.

705P:

For other's reference, here is the 708P option.

that's the whole shebang...

Crazy how the 708 flavor is almost $200 more than the 705 yet they are, I think, mechanically, electronically identical... it's just the filter settings.

As @xyvyx said, that was the amp and DSP module combined for the 708p

I pulled the DSP and everything looks visually ok, pulled the amp and there is a smaller board on the end of it that has clearly been cooking.
See board on the right where you can see 2 areas that look scorched, both the high and low frequency sides of whatever this board is.

I'm not going to take my other speaker apart to see if it's the same way since that one is working fine.
