JBL 4349 Review (Studio Monitor Speaker)

That's what I'm using, JBL does a poor job of steering owners toward the correct stand. The owner's manual mentions the JS-120 because it was written before the JS-150 was released.

The 4349 is considerably bigger than the L100, I'm wondering how many people purchased the JS-120 because of JBL's mistake.
I was lucky enough to buy the even stouter Deer Creek welded metal stands before they stopped making or selling them.
 
Equalization?
Not sure what you mean but since these errors are affected by reflections, you are dependent on dispersion pattern. Most important is to make sure that the energy between 1-2 kHz is a bit higher than at 3-4 kHz for off-axis dispersion. Many speakers have dips 1-2 kHz vs 3-4 due to woofer-tweeter mismatch at the x-over.

The JBL is just a bit hotter around 8k, but we predominantely perceive the direct sound and a PEQ fc 8000, Q=3 - 2 dB should fix this. And filling in the crossover gap should be as easy.

Interesting about the 8khz. I hadn't noticed but I'll try your EQ "fix" and see if it makes any difference. Do you set the 'trim' controls on the front baffle to anything other than 0?
 
You would probably want to set both HF as well as the UHF trims to -1, as a baseline. But if your source has the ability of proper EQ, don't hesitate to go further than what the hardware controls offer.

Kinda what I was driving at. My Revel Performas are very neutral speakers, but in room response is usually a mess for most people, so a 3-5db “trough” doesn’t really mean much in the grand scheme when almost everyone is going to be using room correction.

My pre room correction FR is a disaster despite my neutral speakers and electronics.

4349 measurements link isn't working for me.
That is weird, the link works for me. Maybe you want to try also the general link without the "sublink" to the measurement section?

A couple more plots.

Jbl 2123H mid range; crossover at 400Hz and 2000Hz, extends well below and above XO frequencies.
DT, is this a raw measurement of the 2123? I had read about a rising response... If it is corrected in the measurement, would you mind sharing the XO/comp circuit?

If used naked or in an open baffle, what would you say would be the lower freq limit of the 2123? I am aiming and 250 HZ, and using an AMT on top.

EDIT: looking a closer look, around 560 Hz it does climb about 4 dB. Troes Gravesen has done measurements too, his show a more continuous 5 dB tilt from 300 Hz to 1 kHz. http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/The-Loudspeaker.htm#JBL_2123H

For me it is either the 2123 ot the 8pe21.

Measured installed in a sealed ~15L enclosure without any cross overs or filters.

It might work down to 200hZ. I like to keep the low frequencies out to minimize excursion and Amplitude Modulation distortion.

If mounted in an open baffle you will begin to see front to back cancelation higher than 250hZ
 
Аny data\parameters for JW300PG? I wonder if it's dangerous (or safe) to apply 100-200 watts to it at frequencies of 10-20 Hz.
For example, :cool: some audiophiles recommend Daikan by Thomas Köner for "warming up\break in" loudspeakers.

JBL 4349 has been discontinued. I have a pair I have been using for L&R, and need a single 4349 for a center channel, but am unable to find one. So disappointing. Could use an SCL-2, but it’s very pricey for an in-wall passive. Think I’ll go Neumann KH420 or Genelec 1237A, save a few dollars and get a powered speaker with better spinorama

The Woofer isn‘t from JBL, its build by Eastech under Punktide so maybe you can buy it for DIY.
It has very low xmax of 3,75mm so it can‘t get very loud in the lows and there are many 12“ that can easy outplay this woofer like the Faitial 12RS430 with 13,5mm xmax and 400w AES Power Handling

Xmax doesn‘t tell the whole story. The faital woofer has some problems in the midrange where the 4349 woofer looks way cleaner. German Hifi Selbstbau has measured this faital woofer, it has higher distortion than 4349. Twelve inch woofers for two ways are always a compromise. 4349 has good bass down to 30 Hz and is already really loud.
