power difference with 8341What needs to be updated?
Can you be more specific?power difference with 8341
The brand. What needs to be updated?
I don't understand. Why would its' power need an update? They are nearfield monitors and have more than enough power for that application.
META material . In seriousness, I've been waiting as well as it is around the time they usually do refreshes. It's true that any updates would be very marginal, but no one likes buying a model right before they discontinue it.What needs to be updated?
8331A can't pair with W371.I don't understand. Why would its' power need an update? They are nearfield monitors and have more than enough power for that application.
It just makes no sense at all to pair a 5" speaker with W371 whether it's updated or not.8331A can't pair with W371.
Genelec said the power is not enough.
Can you explain this a little more?It just makes no sense at all to pair a 5" speaker with W371 whether it's updated or not.
The crossover for the W371 is typically around 150-250hz. Not 500hz - 500hz is the end of the flat frequency response from the W371, so you can't cross that high. Thus the woofer in the 8341 still has quite some work to do. And it also means if you cross with a very underpowered speaker you will bottleneck the W371's output severely. Can you explain this a little more?
I am thinking the opposite.
If we are going to use W371 for anything below 500 Hz,
it makes not sense at all to pair with speakers larger than 5".
Both 8341A and 8331A has 3.5" midrange,
but only 8341A can pair with W371A.
I reread the manual. You are right about the crossover frequency. Thank you.The crossover for the W371 is typically around 150-250hz. Not 500hz - 500hz is the end of the flat frequency response from the W371, so you can't cross that high. Thus the woofer in the 8341 still has quite some work to do. And it also means if you cross with a very underpowered speaker you will bottleneck the W371's output severely.
It's also very important to remember that crossovers aren't brick walls, even Genelec's 8th order ones.
Personally I would use 8351B and I believe that's what Genelec normally recommends.
