I agree that speakers from the 70s look stunning. No competition, really. My brother has a pair of old Tandbergs that look like this, only larger:

I'm dreaming of giving them a @Cosmik -style makeover. We'll see if I get to it. Might need a little help from my friends in that case!
Otherwise, I almost feel bad for not being cheapskate enough, having bought some fairly expensive speakers the last year. I make up for it by using very cheap amps and electronics though.
