I just found this forum this weekend and found it really interesting. After reading for some hours I had $3000 Amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket I started buying some gear. I am not sure if all this is going to work together. Can someone tell me if this is the correct way to do this. It is going to be hooked up to my computer, links to the bought items are below also.

Computer ->> DSP (MiniDSP SHD Studio) ->> DAC (Yamaha WXC-50) ->> (2x) Adam Audio A7X Speakers ->> Adam Audio Sub8

Computer<<-->> TOSLINK on Optical connector or USB??? -->>(DSP)->> 2 x SPDIF on RCA connector--> (DAC)-->> PreOut RCA Unbalanced -->>Sub8 ->> Balanced XLR or Unbalanced RCA??? -->> (2x) A7X.

Please let me know if I should be doing something different or if maybe I should have purchaseed something else. I have a couple questions on wiring them as you can see above...Should I use TOSLINK optical or USB to connect audio from Computer to the DSP??? And which should I use from the subwoofer to the 2 speakers, balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA??? I will run the subwoofer with active crossover and hopefully let the DSP do the work of all crossovers and EQ settings + Time Delay. Speakers will be on IsoAcoustic Isolation Stands with foam on my desk and the subwoofer on IsoAcoustic Isolation pucks or Foam on the floor. Are the Isolation pucks worth the extra $100+ or should I just set the subwoofer on foam on the floor?

I have never heard any sort of HiFi system before so I am hoping this really blows my mind for the money I spent on all of this...Do you think I will be happy with this setup, this is my first time messing with this high of quality gear. Please leave me your tips suggestions or remarks I greatly appreciate it. The stuff is in the mail so its not to late to send back and change stuff up if I need to. Hopefully I got the right idea. Thanks for your help.

(Wombat, let's assume it's genuine...)

Use balanced (XLR) connections wherever you can.

The iso-stand things will give you a very small advantage really (if any), you could easily skip them.

Skip the iso-thing for the sub, it will benefit from floor-gain.

Toslink or USB should not make any difference now that isolated USB interfaces are the norm.

It will blow your mind if you want it to. Subjective evaluation is in the mind of the beholder. The equipment all performs very well.

Do not believe ANY Hi-Fi advertising, it's mostly exaggerated bullshit and mostly just trying to get your money with little verifiable benefit (with apologies to the few honest traders here) - similarly for subjective reviews. The industry preys on people's insecurities and practices "exchangeable values", so you need the latest hot item.

If you are happy with it, just listen to music and ignore what everyone else says - why would you care what anyone else thinks?

@PaulD hit all the points I would have...

That should be a great sounding system. If that's your first real system, you should be very pleased.
My advice is to just set it up and enjoy it.

Cheers, and congratulations on your new system.

Toslink provides perfect galvanic isolation but is limited to 24 / 96 kHz.
In practice it can go higher.
USB using UAC2 (USB Audio CLass2) allows for "any" bit rate but also protocols like DOP.
As Toslink is becoming a bit rare in the PC world, it is convenient to have USB as well.

Having both gives you a nice opportunity to compare them.
I would be surprised is there is an audible difference.

>>Sub8 ->> Balanced XLR -->> (2x) A7X is the way to go.

Bit unclear to me.
You can use the Yamaha to feed Sub8 ->> Balanced XLR -->> (2x) A7X
Alternative is using the sub-out of the Yamaha
In this case, Sub8 ->> Balanced XLR -->> (2x) A7X , you are sure that the deep bass is offloaded from the A7X

Why not use the dac on the SHD? Isn't the Yamaha dac redundant? SHD has a very good dac.
