The market is hardly concerned with making good speakers, it's concerned with making max money and the average joe buying his center speaker couldn't care less about its polar response since he doesn't even know what that means.

The current R-Series Ci THX in-walls are based on the several generations old R-Series speakers (R900, R700, R500, R300, R100). Again, they were released in 2014.
The R-Series (non meta) speakers that you're talking about (12th gen Uni-Q) were released in 2018.
