Does the G2/8020D have the same high amounts of harmonic distortion in the <200hz region like the 8010a has? Or is it improved?
I have not measured them, but I had compared the 3 first sizes and at this moment I have the two biggest on my living room: 8010, 8020 and 8030. Distortion on 8010 bass region is noticeable, at some level, didn’t realize any distortion on the 8020 or the 8030.
8030 is the flatter of both them (by comparing measurements, Amir had reviewed only the 8030 but I saw anywhere the 8020 and has some irregularities but not so bad at all).
G2 has no balanced input and has no gain knob (you have a switch for by default sensitivity and -10 dB option). Is more expensive for some reason, black instead grey. Otherwise is the same inside than 8020, I talked directly with Genelec.
My choice is the 8020 with 7040 sub, after thinking 100 times and exhausting Thomann’s 30 days money back period.
8030 is very transparent, but I find 8020 more funny and the room acoustics is better on reflective and small room, and quite linear also. A slight protrusion at bass region that make it a little more rhythmic without bothering, to my ears. Another on low highs, at least on my room, again I can live with it.
If you want to use it to mix or editing, go to 8030 without doubt, better FQR and goes lower.
To listen and move it a lot, the 8020 fits very well anywhere you want, for me is surprisingly good for the size and price. Of course that is an opinion, cannot offer measurements.
