I hope you will enjoy this upgrade: front wide, DTS X Pro, DSU Wide and then Dirac

Hi,
Also received the AVR X6800 in order to replace a X6700 in 9.2.4 setup.
Quick test with PS5 was ok.
Denon info input/output display 4K60 HDR10 BT2020 RGB 12bits 32Gbps.

Congratulations. So all working ok for you?

Would probably help others if you can also confirm that 4k 120Hz is working too. (If you have a suitable TV and a game that can use 120Hz mode).

My display (Epson LS12000) allows 4K120 but I have not yet games using this mode.

Otherwise I will continue my test this week. For now I set the same configuration like my previous X6700: 9.2.4 speaker with Audyssey XT32 using MultEQ editor.
I will add 2 rear subwoofers in the next weeks and only then I would compare Audyssey versus Dirac.

Hi, if you have time it will be great to hear your views when you have had some time with the 6800. I'm planning to buy soon.

With my current setup 9.2.4 and Audyssey MultEQ Editor calibration it sounds like my previous X6700. There is no big difference. It was predictable.

However I plan to add 2 rear subwoofers in the next week to set 9.4.4 speakers. And then I will compare Audyssey vs Dirac BassControl vs Dirac ART. Those 2 arguments (4 sub+Dirac) are the main reasons of this upgrade.

Info from the Denon team

DIRAC ART available in April on 6800 for +299 dollars (to be added to Dirac full band)
This would be excellent news. Minus the price, of course. Bundle of DL + DLBC + ART will probably be over 1k $...

I paid $1400 for my x4800h with Audyssey. Math's not adding up for me.
Let me put it this way, Dirac ART, should be roughly equivalent to a major speaker or room upgrade.... (theoretically)...

If you think of it that way, it may well be good value.

If you think of it as an additional (possibly minor) feature on the AVR, it makes no sense whatsoever.

I remain a bit sceptical that the benefits are as large as the hype would suggest.

Has anyone posted measurements that show the improvement with ART on vs off? In theory shouldn't it be easily visible on a waterfall plot? If so, would someone please link to them here?

Thanks @just1n

The first post linked above apparently gives a bit of a false comparison between No EQ and DL + DLBC + ART. I wouldn't be surprised if this is driving some hype:

...but it led me to some other posts including this one which shows the more expected outcome of a modest reduction in decay times (and significantly more uniform):

Posted together for comparison,

bottom=DL+DLBC:

I hope @tjcinnamon doesn't mind me reposting these measurements here.

I'm still left wondering how significantly audible this would be?

Subjective reports are almost universally positive...

The key thing is, similar benefits can be achieved with various other methods (room treatments, bass traps etc...) - and some of the benefits will only acrue in rooms with issues!

The biggest benefits for Dirac ART, will be for those who do not have a specialised dedicated listening or HT room ... for all those of us where the Audio/HT system is in a shared living area, where specialised treatments are limited (often by domestic aspects, or by the layout of the room, etc...) - that is where ART should come into its own.

For those who have the priviledge of a dedicated, fully treated room - the impact is likely to be minimal.

For the rest of us... ART is likely to be a lot cheaper than a home extension or renovation to accomodate!

Hi,

A small precision, when we use ART, bassControl is disabled and vice versa.
So we can suppose if the customer pay licence for ART it will not mandatory to pay for BassControl module.
Thanks for that piece of information. I've corrected the offending post.

As Sebastien G. from StormAudio explain in this video , Dirac ART is not a magic tool than can solve lack of treatment in the room. The main goal of ART is to maximize the impulse response for frequences under 150Hz.

I hope the implementation of ART in the new generation of Denon/Marantz will be efficient (number of taps, number of total support speakers)

This is news to me! My understanding both here and over at AVS is that in order to qualify for ART, you need to have already paid for DL and DLBC!

Good news is that they are not mine!

Bad news is that they are not mine!

Those decay times are insane and I NEED to hear it live. I can't fathom a 200ms sub 60Hz?!?! So curious!
