This was the oddest speaker at the show. It uses high voltage to ionize air molecules and with it, make sound. I asked them if the transformer they use would make a difficult load. He said he was not technical and didn't know. But then told me they had blown their amplifier the previous day which answered my question :).

They had bought two tiny amps and tried to play music with it. It played at whisper level. They said it gets up to 90 db SPL but they are working on making it louder. All the sound is produced in the vertical narrow structure. There is also a down firing woofer.

Well thank goodness no mechanics were involved. Greasy types who should rightfully stick to working on vehicles.

Sounded like Russian when they spoke?
Anyway, if they could make an acoustically transparent lamp shade, those would make great surrounds

I've heard of Doctors Without Borders, but never speakers without borders. For some reason I skipped this room, lack of faith I guess that it wasn't a gimmick.
