Just popping by Tech Geek in our High St. this morning, when it occurred to me they would have the USB C phone port, to RCA phono, as I thought, gizmo, to connect the I.E.M.'s to my new Samsung S24. Our man eventually decided I was talking about a USB C to aux connector. He produced a perfectly decent, small cable connector which looked, through the packaging, as though it might be just the ticket. Twenty quid, but it was Apple. In fact he said he would charge me fifteen. At home, I plugged it in and then attempted to connect the Zero:2. Felt a bit loose. Found "The last train home", on YouTube. Left ear only. By pressing the plug in hard, I was able to hear the Right hand side, but it wouldn't stay in place.
Back up to my man. One look at the Zero:s. "You have got the wrong headphones!!!!" He told me I wanted the type with a microphone switch on them. I told him I didn't and he did grudgingly give me the fifteen quid back. He pointed out the two rings on the plug, and said it needed to be three. Possibly all Apple headphones would work via his connector?
Anyway guys, as I prepare to venture onto Amazon, what do I specifically need, please?

I did think the Wallace and Gromit link would be a bit of fun ocean.
And have taken a punt on a specific connector via Amazon.

A more specific thread title - one that expresses your needs?
Or, at the very least, a comma.

Thanks Jimbo
It did seem straightforward to me. As I said, the shop guy blamed me for having the wrong headphones for the device he sold me!

Not sure what you were sold but the £9 apple usb c adapter (available on Amazon, apple etc but be careful of knock offs ) works fine for my android phones to trs plugs . Not sure what territory you are in but just buy from your local apple physical store or postage free apple website .

Just don't buy the bloody lightning one by mistake like I did once

I have gone for a Ugreen usb c to 3.5 mm jack which claims to be compatible with the s24 Ultra Jimbo.
I'll find out tomorrow, if that works!

Works with TRRS too - Moondrop Chu with mic and switches to an Android phone, and to a linux PC. I connect the headphones before the USB.

If there's no mic /inline remote likely are that . But pretty sure my apple dongle can handle trrs also .
Mine is the £9 one too. It works with both TRS (no mic/remote) and TRRS (mic and remote). I assume it's CTIA pinout not OMTP which I think has all but disappeared now.

Looks like this Ugreen device is either faulty or the wrong device for my iem,s. Not a hint of recognition on the Ultra. Nor on the wifes Nord 2.
Can't think if there is another usb socket device in the house to try it with. I suppose that even at only a tenner, I should look for a refund.
I am duty bound to report back here when I succeed.

Both the Apple and UGreen dongles are pretty standard. It seems unlikely that both are faulty. Some dongles do some autodetection when the USB connection is plugged in, so it's better to connect the headphones before the USB. Are the IEMs known to be working correctly with other sources?

I wondered about manufacturers preventing dongles working in their Android implementations, but samsung claim it works on theirs.

The dongle should also work with a PC or Mac, either direct into a type C socket or with an adapter. You may need to find out how to send the audio to the dongle in whichever operating system you run (Windows, MacOS etc.) before you hear anything though.

Thank you somebody.
My Moondrop Chu's, and The Zero:2 work via the phone audio connector on my superceeded one plus 5.
Perhaps a specific Samsung dongle is a good idea. In that yesterday's Apple connector sort of worked, but didn't cut out the phones speakers, that might imply that the phone side of things is okay.
Back to the drawing board.
Thank you again.

Just check the USB settings on the phone. Back in the bad old days you used to have to faff with the OTG / USB settings to get some USB devices to work with some Android builds. How that can be the case with a new phone is beyond me but agree with @somebodyelse , this isnt sounding like 2 dud dongles. You've given the USB socket of the phone a good check, quick blow for dust and debris? Presume it charges fine etc?

Thanks Jimbo
Perhaps half an hour of texting to Samsung help eventually produced "The s24 Ultra will not work with 3.5 mm earphone connectors"!.
Oh, that's alright then!!!!!
At that point I was too tired and depressed to ask why.
Will attend to your comments, and certainly not give up on trying.
Can't figure out how to ensure the usb socket is capable of working both into and out of the phone.
It certainly charges okay.
