Gene DellaSala of Audioholics discusses passive speaker crossover upgrade

This colloquy raises the question of which of the following is most significant to produced sound:
  1. Drivers
  2. Cabinet (writ large)
  3. Crossovers
  4. Room and placement within
I'm guessing crossovers aren't high in importance on this list, but I'm open to persuasion otherwise.
I think you need to separate xover parts vs design.

I would say the room, because the room dictates everything else. e.g. you wouldn't put a tiny bookshelf speaker in a large room if you wanted decent SPL, nor would you put a monster speaker in a bedroom. Not only because you don't need it, but it would look ridiculous.

But as for what is 2nd most important, I would be hard pressed to say. Crossovers are incredibly important in that they have to be designed properly. But once they are designed ... exotic parts don't make much of a difference.

Depends on your starting point. If buyer, then point 1 2 and 3 are combined, so 4 followed by 123combo. Wrt to point 4 the WAF is a factor. If diy, being my point, 2 cabinet followed by 13combo. Point 4 is a given.
Point 1 and 3 are moot if point 2 cabinet is of poor quality. If point 2 cabinet is good, then it is about the combination of drivers and crossover.

Let’s stay on topic here specifically with regard to the posted video.

There are plenty of other threads about speaker design tradeoffs.

Thanks!
