They are not the cheapest piece of foam out there, so I'd like to hear what you think.

t.akustik ISO-Pad 6 comes at half the price. Do you think Auralex decouples that much better or is it the brand fame?

(THE USE: My brother bought bookshelves, but his space is organized so that he can't use stands. It's wall-to-wall furniture and putting them in front would get in the way. He is not happy with on wall mounting.)

I use some of the Auralex which are fine. My guess is the other brand would do just as well.

Is it not good to put the speakers directly on the shelf? (Honest question)

Would you say this statement is correct?

"If i don't hear or feel anything strange all is good"

I am asking because that's how i have them, and all the bookshelf speakers i had (not many though) had rubber feet. Always thought that was enough

Well, you might hear it if you had the chance to compare the sound with or without decupling. But if you like the sound, you shouldn't worry. These huge wood-particle "boxes" I depicted in my post vibrate a lot and you can really hear them emitting sound.

Rule of thumb is you usually decouple speakers from the surface they're on to prevent furniture imparting sound to the overall listening experience.

random blocks of foam with unpublished mechanical properties. why not source Sorbothane feet/pads of which the spring/mass system can be tailored to the exact needs/specs of the loudspeaker that needs deocupling? simply source the size and associated "duro" value that has a lbs/pad range that falls within the weight of your loudspeaker.

i.e, for a 20lb loudspeaker using (4) feet/pads, select a size/duro value that falls within 5lbs/pad spec.

Respectable approach, for sure. I also like placing some trust to (at least) some companies, I think it's needed these days. But, sourcing sorbothane is not as easy in every part of the world and the ones I ask about are sold in my town. So some convenience played a part as well.
