Boomers, remember Soylent Green?

Covid-19: Some economists and other market-based drones are pushing for Soylent Grey.

Ha, wow, what's this, some kind of DIY porn.....I don't get it?!? I dunno, the slow deliberate actions, and the shiny metal surfaces combined with excellent lighting & 4K capture, I was imagining some kind of niche DIY porn, especially because of the number of likes.....I'm out of touch!

Already here: https://soylent.com/

Presumably for those not only too lazy to shop and cook, but too lazy to even chew.

Ingredients

FILTERED WATER, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, MALTODEXTRIN, HIGH OLEIC SUNFLOWER OIL, ALLULOSE, CANOLA OIL, COCOA POWDER (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI), NATURAL FLAVORS, VITAMIN AND MINERAL PREMIX, SOLUBLE CORN FIBER, SOY LECITHIN, CELLULOSE, SALT, GELLAN GUM, SUCRALOSE.

All the ultra processed garbage you could ever want in a convenient liquid form.

It seems to be missing the key ingredient. ;)

Hmmz. It doesn't appear to be too too bad. The cocoa appears weird but alakali processed cocoa is one of two methods of refining the stuff. I wouldn't buy it but it's not all weirdO chemicals in it mixture.

On a slightly curious note, what are some examples of that?

There's several potentials in this article. Things have gotten much better now that there are multiple public code repos for open sourced projects, and companies are much more aware of how dependent they are on their IP and infrastructure code, etc. However many of the platform technologies upon which millions of devices, applications, etc. depend, may be themselves dependent upon some obscure controller protocol or custom class which has no documentation, and quite possibly no living coder with familiarity. Java updates are fairly benign for the most part, but only when well documented and rolled out properly - and that's not always the case. It's not always something inconsequential like a Bluray player that winds up borked because of it.

I saw an ATM machine the other day which was still running Windows95 Embedded... which is actually quite modern in comparison to much of the infrastructure employed by the government sadly. When the pandemic started there was a huge problem because there weren't enough proficient COBOL programmers to make changes to the unemployment system.

And I can virtually guarantee that there are controllers and other infrastructure components employed in power plants which haven't been produced in 30 years, and will eventually require either bespoke replacement prototypes or very dicey system renovation on a live reactor. Those of us without access or first-hand knowledge just have to hope and pray that all those contingencies are well documented... on paper. Otherwise there may be a bunch of panicked engineers digging through closets looking for 40 year old dBase manuals and an 8" floppy drive that still works. ;)

They (Pinto cars) had a gas tank strap that broke easily on slight rear end impacts, and the tank got damaged, gas got out and ignited from any sparks.
