And, if you enable alexa within the amazon music app. You can give it commands to play on the wiim. Or just use alexa cast (need to enable on the wiim too separate from amazon music bit of the wiim app) in the app to divert playback from phone to wiim. As you would any other alexa speaker.

Ah, yeah looks like this has changed. It used to be you had to pay extra for UHD if I recall correctly. We have the "family plan" version.

Yeah, there’s not a service called Amazon Music HD or Amazon Music UHD, just the three main services (free, unlimited and Prime) described in your second link. Amazon Music Unlimited was briefly called Amazon Music HD when they first introduced lossless tracks, but shortly after they stopped charging an additional £5 premium for it (when Apple Music released their hires service), they dropped the HD part of the name and went back to it being Unlimited.

The Amazon Music Unlimited individual or family plan (but not the single echo plan) offers around 100m tracks of lossless tracks with better than CD quality, with a proportion of those being greater than CD quality up to 24/192 (maybe around 6 or 7% in line with the other major streaming services ). In Amazon terms, any lossless track which is 16bit is called HD, and anything which is 24bit (even 24/44.1) is termed UHD.

You can either play Amazon Music bit perfect from within the WiiM Hime app, or uniquely cast it to a WiiM device bit perfect from the Amazon Music app, both up to 24/192.

No, you didn’t pay extra for UHD specifically, you paid extra for lossless tracks which included both 16bit HD and 24bit UHD tracks. If you didn’t pay the extra you got lossy MP3 tracks, which Amazon termed SD.

For a brief period where they did charge extra, the service was confusingly called Amazon Music HD (there’s never been a service called Amazon Music Unlimited UHD) but that included both lossless 16bit HD and lossless 24bit UHD tracks. When they dropped the extra charge, the name of the service reverted back to Amazon Music Unlimited.

For anyone looking in the future, worth checking the eBay Linkplay store, if you don't mind a refurbished unit. I usually avoid the "fake refurbished", i.e. used resold by a third party for a markup, because they have cosmetic problems and usually no quality control. But I always had good luck with refurbished units directly from the manufacturer: those are either returned or reworked units, with QC and usually a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer.

I just use an old Mibox remote combined with ESP32 BT gateway, ESPHome and Home Assistant., so it's based on BTLE communication. It doesn't emulate a WiiM remote.

Thanks!. If I understand you correctly, you are using the HASS integration to send commands to the WiiM, and ESPHome to process the commands from the remote (and forward to HASS).

Love my WiiM Pro, works exactly as expected. I was going to set up a Raspberry Pi-based streamer, but I'm so glad I didn't. Even as an experienced RPi user and having set up similar systems in the past, the level of integration with music services and the user experience is orders of magnitude better with the WiiM. And all for only $99 (manufacturer refurb).

When other devices in the IoT network are untrusted, you should check how much information they can collect from Wiim. Are access tokens to streaming services available?
One untrusted device accessing another is also a security threat.

Most IoT devices cannot talk to each other (other iptables rules). And, yes, in theory you are correct, but in order for that to be a real issue, a hacked IoT device would have to know to look specifically for WiiM traffic and know what to look for. And I'm not sure how many hackers would be interested in a temporary token to a streaming service. But you are right, that is also a security issue.

The main threat I'm trying to secure against, is for a compromised IoT device to target the Windows devices on the main network or find ways to compromise the main router (which they cannot reach beyond DNS/DHCP). I'm paranoid about security, but up to a certain point

Do you have your IoT separated in multiple LAN segments? Otherwise the traffic is not going through iptables. Another possibility is a wifi access point with client isolation, forcing the clients to only connect to the router. Or a managed LAN switch with a similar feature.

Yes, multiple separate WiFi guest networks by device class. The WiiM is on the same one as the Nvidia Shield TV, both devices with a low risk profile. Chinese IP cameras are on the most limited portion, and things like the Vizio Smart TV is blocked from everything by default, I enable access only if I need an update (I don't trust using Vizio TVs as a smart TV, only as a display)

Also there is the same problem...after half to 1hour...cant listen any more...if I disconet chromecast working OK...(Tidal, Spotify works ok, all time...)
