Niko’s “Chelsea Girl” and this new Atmos mix of ABC’s “The Lexicon of Love”. The latter is a master class in production values, and is convincing me that Spatial Audio has finally evolved beyond the gimmicky/stoned phase into the way we’ll all arguably be experiencing music in the future. When Atmos is mixed properly, with the right equipment, the music doesn’t sound any different than what I’ve been long accustomed to. There‘s no disembodied guitar or vocal yapping at you from the left surround speaker—the mix sounds as it always has, just bigger and more immersive.
I’m finding it thrilling, and the first true major sea change in the music listening experience since the CD came out when I was in high school, except even more transformative.
