Beethoven 5th Symphony, Glenn Gould performing his transcription for piano
I just finished my first listen to Glenn Gould (piano) performing Beethoven (5th Symphony). I've been listening to the 5th all of my life and Gould for the past 20 years or so. What a wonderful -- and completely unconventional interpretation. Lyrical as Gould felt it; march-step when appropriate. My experience was one of complete delight. I believe that Beethoven would have been astonished.
You just cannot get an orchestra to interpret the way Gould does; they'd get lost.
This is one of the Gould recordings rescued and remastered from the 1968 original. I streamed it from a huge collection of Gould recordings on Amazon Music.
Weary of all the second-rate, brash performances of the 5th by convention-ridden conductors and laconic orchestras? Play this. It's like an entirely new Beethoven adventure.
