Hi Everyone,
I’m new here, been lurking for a while and just signed up. I live in West Yorkshire UK and have always loved music and been interested in audio products. My background and degree was in electrical and electronic engineering but I work in network and security.
I don’t have room for a HiFi so listen on headphones. I currently use Tanchjim ONE IEMs running off an apple dongle on either my iPhone or iPad from lossless on Apple Music. To me they sound fantastic and a huge upgrade over the Grado headphones I was using for past 25+ years.
Regards
Kev

Greetings from Indianapolis! Happy to be here- and looking forward to learning a lot. I've already really enjoyed perusing the discussions covering a wide variety of topics that I find interesting and helpful. I appreciate the objectivity that inspires the content here- it is so sorely lacking in other venues.

Hello from the Swedish countryside!

Long time "lurker", mostly reading reviews, and finally decided to become a member.
Retail worker that's getting into my mid 30s sooner than I like to admit

Always had an interest for hifi, growing up with a dad who's always had fairly nice stuff.
But in the last two or so years the interest have really taken off!
Started with that I got the opportunity to buy a pair of Morel Octave 6 book shelf speakers to upgrade from my Heco Celan 300's at a to good of a price to turn down, and so it started spiral from there...

Current setup is a as following:

AMP: Dynavox VR-3000 tube amp, will soon get some NOS tubes for it.

Turntable: Teac TN-300 with a Sumiko Pearl pick up

Phono amp: Fosi Audio Box x2

CD player/transport: Shengya CD-S10CS (same as a Vincent CD-S6)

DAC: Topping Dx3 pro+

Streamer: Wiim Ultra

Speakers: Morel Octave 6 bookshelfs

Sub: Heco Elan 30a

Speaker cables: Supra classic 2,5mm2

RCA cables: Audioquest King Cobra and Atlas element integra

Coax cable (from cd to dac): Audioquest Cinnamon

Supra lorad power strip

Headphones/IEM's: AKG K701 and KZ Castor

The speakers (and sub) and also doubles as fronts in the 5.1 system in the living room (Yamaha RX-V4A receiver, old Mission 780 bookhelfs as rears and a Dynavoice C5 XL center) with a switch to change between tube amp and the 5.1 receiver.

Far from the most impressive setup, but I'm very happy with how it sounds, especially with how relatively low budget I've spent on it But of course there's always somethings that I want to change/upgrade down the road...

Have a great Saturday!

Long-time lurker, joined to reply to a comment I saw about the LCD-X. I get frustrated by how much mysticism and bullshit is in this hobby so often came here to get a more balanced, objectivist take on stuff.

Welcome!

We've got quite the collection of sharp, hot knives to cut through all that bullshit butter. Settle in and make yourself comfortable. I learn something from the remarkable membership here most every day.

Oh yeah, I know. And I've tried to cut through that bullshit on certain other places of the internet. One such place is basically a lost cause...

Hello.
I didn't know that there was a forum for presentations and that's why I've already participated with some posts.
My name is Vicent and I live in Spain.
I don't speak English and that's why I'm forced to translate everything with Google Translate and that's why I'll create some confusion more than once, I hope that if it happens it's not serious.
It is also possible that there may be some confusion or delay in responding due to the time change.
I'm a music lover, Hi-Fi and music production as hobbies but with a poverty-stricken economy for this.
I hope to learn and share.
So far I've been received very well, thank you very much. :)

You might want to try this app instead of Google Translate. In my opinion, it does a better job. https://www.deepl.com/en/translator

Hello and greatings @all ,

visiting this site from time to time and appreciate the knowlegde and discussions in the forum and all the valuable measurements very much. Besides enjoying music i am also interested in other aspects of this hobby and as a rationalist (most time ;)) ASR provides me great info, thank you.

Personally I am pretty happy with my setups and settled down for a while, so no major plans in swapping hardware. Future upgrades/projects are connecting my PC to my AV/TV Setup properly and connecting Amazon Music bitperfect without breaking the bank.

As for Amazon Music i am pretty sure adding a wiim mini to the system and connect via toslink seams the most reasonable way to be.

My major setup in use for Stereo and HT

Speakers : KEF R900

Sub: JBL Studio L8400 P

CD/DAC/Preamp: Audiolab 8200CDQ

Streamer: Cambridge CXN V1

AVR: Pioneer SC LX57

AMP: DIY Hypex Ncore NC400 2x Mono

Phonopre: Rega mini, Shiit mani, Cambridge Duo

Turntable: Acoustic Solid 111

Cartridge: diverse ,most of time i use Nagaoka MP110 for everyday use

Wish you all the best and a nice sunday.

Hi, this is Kai, from the Cologne area in Germany!

Although I've been reading here for a some time, I'd like to introduce myself briefly because I now want to reply occasionally.

I've been addicted to listening to music and audio equipment for almost 50 years now, starting with such gems as my beloved first stereo system Dual HS 39 , right up to modern Lyngdorf equipment with RoomPerfect DSP - what an improvement in sound quality! I even recently built my first pair of loudspeakers myself.
img_6432.jpg

I've already learned a lot here in the ASR forum and found lots of tips. A few months ago I bought the RME ADI 2 DAC second-hand, not least because of the posts here - a great device, my final DAC!

Because I still like listening to CDs and also like using used players, I'm currently finding Flo's (member NTTY) reviews extremely interesting. I would really like to find me an Onkyo C733 ...

Best regards,
Kai

For God's sake... I had one just like that and in my eagerness to tinker and evolve, I dismantled it.
I think I must still have the plate somewhere in the storage room.
What memories...
Welcome

Hello everyone @ ASR. :)

I couldn't find a new members section so thought I'd start one... if that is ok @amirm.

I'm from Australia and have been a member of a number of audio and tech forums for well over 20 years.

So g'day everyone, in particular any other Aussies here (@Sir Sanders Zingmore).

I've lurked on this forum a number of times and thought it's about time I joined up!

I'm a little sick of forums that have become repetitive or worse commercial. I like what appears to be an independent forum here, generally free of corporate posts and BS.

I think I fell in love with audio and associated equipment when I was very young. Music is the language of the soul and taste is different for everyone, so it is always subjective from the human perspective.

Don't worry though, I'm not a "golden ear" type audio enthusiast... I have experienced all the old age threads on power cables, interconnects, vinyl vs digital, DAC's etc. etc. so am not here to go through those discussions again... rather meet some like minded people and learn more about the things I enjoy.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
JSmith
Thought I’d introduce myself. Yes, 1955 is my DOB. Dad was TV/radio engineer from the thermionic era & knew his way around the inside of things, though he never built stuff, despite loving music. I fell in love with hifi when I went to the uk science museum as a child and heard a demonstration of stereo on QUAD ESL 57s (recording of a string quartet). My ability to buy equipment has improved in inverse proportion to my ability to hear things, though I still enjoy what I can hear, and hear different things through different kit. ASR is an absolute breath of fresh air though I do own kit Amir would disapprove of eg Chord DAVE (tldr). I’m particularly interested in tests of older gear—the physics of sound reproduction and psychoacoustics are well understood and I’m not convinced that latest is necessarily greatest. Still, it’s clear there have been some advances (eg better materials, more efficient construction methods, better measurement) I’d love to see old/new measurement comparisons to track what advances have really been made.

Hey everyone! I already made some posts here and there but I thought I’d introduce myself as well. I’m 29 and live in Austria. Have been lurking for years before I registered, so I feel like I’m „familiar“ with many long term members and major contributors, as I’ve saved many of your posts and have learned a lot through them. Very thankful for that & the site itself, it’s an incredible resource. I first stumbled upon it when the KEF LS50 review was published, because I was obsessed with the speakers back then and wanted to learn more about what makes them sound so good. It wasn’t even such a positive review, but it didn’t take long for me to abandon most of the subjectivist notions I held.

After the KEFs I had a pair of Harbeth P3esr speakers that I loved, but that could easily be brought to bottoming out with a 100hz HP at 2m distance to MLP, which lead me to my current system, which consists of a Minidsp Flex (fed by a computer) -> pair of VTL Mb 125 Monos -> JBL S3100 MKII (+ 3 subs ranging from 10“ to 12“) and is supposed to allow for lots of dynamic headroom. I realised that I really don’t want to know the limits of my system. The tube monoblocks obviously don’t adhere to the ethos of this forum, but they were acquired at a good price, look cool and are just „stopping by“ here, to move on eventually. I’m not wealthy and can’t really afford to keep such expensive „toys“. I don’t think they sound any different than the SS amp I had before, as the speakers have a relatively benign impedance curve and are high passed at 80hz, anyway. If I can, I’ll replace the VTLs with an AHB2 or some or other Class D design in the future. I also own a Technics SH-9020 peak/hold VU meter, which is a fun little gadget. The JBL UT-405 supertweeters on top of the big JBLs are mostly decorative. I’m getting rid of them eventually because they probably introduce comb filtering.

I wish all of you a nice week - attaching a picture of my sisters pup for good luck

Hello everyone,

I have been reading ASR for a little while now, and have been fascinated with hi-fi for years though I never had any money to actualise that interest!

I’m also a teacher-researcher in philosophy doing some research for a paper I’m writing on audiophilia (that I write for myself, I should add, on my free time – I have no intension to publish it in any journal). I suspected there was some philosophical challenges in the debates that animate the community but I didn’t anticipate so much.

I believe to have as little horse in the race as possible: on the one hand, I want you to be right for most things (the idea of spending more than 50 bucks on cables make me sick)… on the other hand, I admit to being sometimes charmed by the soft mysticism some – from « the other camp » – seem to be trapped in. I have yet to buy stuff, so I don’t need to be reassured regarding a large amount of money already spent.

I suppose I will probably only post in the master thread.

Cheers,

Paul

I suppose I will probably only post in the master thread.

Welcome!

Please make yourself at home in whatever threads you are inspired to post in.

If a post is better off somewhere else, we can always move it. ;)

...I admit to being sometimes charmed by the soft mysticism some – from « the other camp » – seem to be trapped in.

There are some very good storytellers out there.

For me, a story without any data or evidence is just a story that is easily dismissed. Anecdote can be fun, but it can't be confused with or used in place of evidence, at least not here.

Glad to have you join our merry corner of the world!
