I received a 4-channel VTV amp w/ the NC502MP modules and no 12v trigger this past week. The amplifier runs perfectly and is flawless in operation. However as some mentioned here there’s a loud pop when my unit is powering down.

Is the loud noise at all damaging to speakers? Anyway to fix it without having to install or modify anything? TIA.

Some hypex amps have a turn off thump. If you have a loud crack, start by disconnecting your preamp from it and power cycling to see if it is better. If it is, you have an upstream component generating DC offset.

Ok, I’ll try that. Do you know if this loud crack is harmful for speakers? Any way to take care of the DC offset issue if that’s the case? I appreciate it.

I unplugged my processor from the amplifier and the loud pop is still there. I realize a slight pop sound may be normal of some Hypex amps but this is louder than I’ve ever heard.

I wish there was some way to definitively answer your question but we can't determine how loud is "loud"?
In the vast majority of cases I would say no, don't worry about it.
But obviously at some point of "loud", a speaker could be damaged.
My best guess is, if it doesn't rattle dishes in the kitchen, your probably OK
but but but but?

Not that I can think of, have you talked to the manufacturer?

I do have one idea, don't turn it off. It's a Hypex amp and doesn't draw much power.

The popping sound upon amp shutoff is definitely louder than normal, maybe 80dB loud?, rather than just a slight pop. But chatting with the manufacturer, who was kind enough to answer product questions on a weekend btw, the pop while annoying is normal. He says efficient speakers, like I use, will tend to accentuate the popping sound more. I can live with that if it doesn’t mean anything getting damaged.

"Hypex pop"

I've noticed this on my Buckeye NC502MP as well. There is a slight pop when the relay triggers on or off.
  1. It uses what appears to be a coil relay. Would an optically-isolated relay be less susceptible to pop?
  2. If I use a relay which supports both NO and NC, I can use time delay circuits to the PS enable and amp mute pins. NC would assert amp mute, NO would assert PS enable. The delay circuits would ensure amp mute is asserted when the PS is enabled or disabled. Might this resolve the pops?

DIY Hypex NC252mp
I used the ARCTIC TP-3 Thermal Pad, the temperature of the closed amplifier is 32.5 degrees Celsius top panel
set of cables from ghentaudio very long delivery time from China so I used what I had at home when they arrive I will replace them
it is absolutely silent, no hum, I use pro-ject for box ds2 digital as a preamplifier
