Van Alstine audio

The only reason Frank ever started into the cable thing was to make more money. He is an engineer and really isn't into magic wire at all. It took him a good number of years to succumb to people who desired removable power cords. I was actually shocked when he did it because that is not the way he is. I am sure if you wanted specs he'd likely send them to you. The guy has been around since the 70's and still being in business in the audio world is quite a feat.

THe NCORE DIY kit is a bit less if you are comfortable with a screwdriver.

I'm in the "West" of the US. Las Vegas, NV. I really wish I lived closer to Seattle so I could drop an amp off for testing. I literally just pulled an AVA Vision SET 400 out of my system to make space for monoblocks. For now it will not be used. And wouldn't need a time limit on how long it would take to test, within reason of course. But no rush. This amp sounds exquisite with my speakers. Balanced powerful. Love it. The 400 wasn't weak, at all, but my speakers are hungry for power, and they are about to get a lot more.
The monos going in are AVA products, as well. The MVA M750(s). They are rated at 750W@8 ohms. My speakers are 6 ohm speakers so they should be seeing, perhaps close to 1,000 watts, or so, at 6 ohms. I'm psyched and taking a break from rearranging and moving shit, but can hardly wait.

Any news on testing an AVA SET 400 amp ?
You, or someone, would need to provide the amp to Amir for him to test.

Novel, original ideas can build on the same basic components. Circuits are made of those components. Some are magic, some are plebeian, and there are plenty of patents on both. Some of the greatest original ideas were (and are) the simplest.
Frank had a letter from the chief engineer at B&K confessing to theft of a power amp design. Pretty solid evidence if you ask me. He was directly instructed by the company muckity-mucks to put the AVA design into production instead of his design. When Frank sent a copy the letter to the well known subjectivist magazine that tested both but rated the (identical) B&K two 'classes' higher, they did nothing. Guess it was too embarrassing to admit that their reviewer's ears weren't so 'golden' after all.

Frank is not 'anti-measurement' per se but has criticisms of the IHF measurements that he still holds today. AVA is glad to provide specs to anyone requesting them. You can still find these discussions in his free downloadable Audio Basics newsletter. The company has a reputation for reliability and value stretching back to the 1970s. Not many companies in the fickle audio world can make that claim. Buy with confidence.

I said nothing against Frank. I knew him in the 1970's and early 1980's and respect him to this day. The B&K incident has been pretty well documented, along with a few others. Not sure why you brought up a four year old post to attack me, and not sure exactly what in my statements you disagree with, but I've no dog in this hunt. But an excellent example of why I'm trying to stay off ASR these days.
