Thanks, what about the volume dial operation, will it be difficult to turn the volume pot?

I am still waiting to receive one, but based on the ZReviews video it seems easy to use the knob, he also has big hands and it was managing to use it well so I think that for medium-sized hands it won't be a problem, plus it seems really well done.

The A90 & D90 combo seems hard to beat. You could save some money and use the A90 with the Soncoz LA-QXD1

The best combos right now seems to be

E30/L30 for non balanced
QXD1+A50s (if it will be released) if you want balanced on budget not needing preamp
QXD1 + A90 if you want best balanced amp but still keeping an eye on budget, and having preamp
SGD1 + A90 if you want best balanced amp and dac, bluetooth, remote and preamp
D90 + A90 if you want to go bal*s deep and you like the look of a matching stack

Oh well, I stopped at D90+A90 just for their matching design, of course a lot of other DACs can be matched for a "definitive" DAC/Amp combo

Digital volume attenuation is locked however when the D90 (dac) is in pre-amp mode.

Isnt it locked in DAC mode, variable in pre-amp mode? Otherwise, its not doing the job of a preamp?

Because high-performing inexpensive DACs and HPAs are comparatively easier to design internally and produce at contracted assemblers from available components versus "cheap" desktop power amps that, if Class AB, would require heatsinks, casework, large PSUs, etc.

He wasn't commenting on the quality of the headphones, more that if your total cost envelope is in that sort $1500 - $2000 area, you'd get more value for money spending a larger proportion on the headphones.

The V1 he tested is better that the currently available V2 with iirc ~10 ohms output impedance, but for the 300 ohm HD800 that won't matter at all.
