Arrived today, 'Basic Instinct' (1992) Laserdisc - NTSC Dolby Digital
Had the PAL Laserdisc pressing since 1993.
The transfer colour is different between the NTSC and PAL.
The Dolby Digital pressing was released on 1997.
Also have region 2 DVD that was released on 2002. The colours are nicer on the region 2 DVD thou maybe some video manipulation has been applied as some scenes have far too much contrast on "the beach house" scene, that washes out some ocean waves in the background.
The PAL laserdisc has slightly better red colour than a later NTSC pressing or it's the "Never Twice The Same Colour" issue? Or the colourest messing with computer altering the tone of the red?
Red is good on the region 2 DVD. The NTSC red is just paler looking on a traffic light same goes with orange a fraction paler.
I could get used to the NTSC for Dolby Digital that is better than the region 2 DVD that sounds like a near field remix.
One scene that stands out clearer is where "Catherine Tramell" flicks a cigarette-butt with her fingertip is far clearer on the NTSC Dolby Digital and less so on the region 2 DVD where I can only hear a muffled sound of flicking the cigarette-butt.
Several release formats for 'Basic Instinct;' Dolby Stereo SR and France LC-Concept Digital Sound, that got into big troubles during the earl 1990's and lasted for mere few films.
