Tell me your best preamp

Glitched, meaning full volume output?
Yes, I was running the audio sync feature. My Wiim was set to fixed 100% volume as I was controlling through my Denon. The tones to sync audio with the TV were full volume. I thought my speakers were ruined as they were only rated for 145W (Dynaudio Emit 20). Thankfully no discernable damage to the speaker. My ear drum is a different story. I posted on the Wiim Forum and it looks like it got escalated to the devs.

easily mitigated by using passive attenuators on the input of the amp, so that full output from the DAC is at (or a little above) your highest listening volume.

Wiim too?It seems that the paranoid me will never get better.
I wonder and really-really expect to see the new advertised Eversolo safeguards against it (on top of the analog VC)

My MiniDSP Flex has never screwed up in this way.

Not that it would be a problem if it did - it's normally set at about -3dB

Truth is I never heard horror story for Flex.
For 2x4 on the other hand... Child diseases I guess.

An Apt Holman would also do what I want, and I may try one if I find one at a good price when I'm in the mood.

I have one that I purchased new in 1978 but it needs to be rebuilt. I would part with it for $40 plus shipping. Let me know if interested. I'm totally happy using the RME ADI-2 DAC FS as my pre-amp.

I have two preamps: a ProPassion (passive) and a Bryston BP25.
Both gather dust because all the DACs I've had (Yulong, Mytek, SMSL...) I've always connected them directly to the monitors and I've never had any problems or risked causing damage.

The new Schiit Saga 2 is a pretty nice preamp. 4 inputs, three gain levels, both RCA and XLR out to amp, remote control. Alas, does not have phono preamp or tone controls, but I guess you can't have it all. I am enjoying mine, plan to pair it with a Schiit speaker amp eventually.

As much as I like it, as I have written elsewhere, it has made me appreciate all of the functionality packed into my older NAD 1020 and Nikko Beta 20 preamps. I like both of these preamps, apart from the weird horizontal jack panel on the NAD.

My WiiM ultra glitched twice running an Emotiva xpa-2 Gen 2. Had a ringing in my ear for 2 days. Sent the Ultra back promptly
I appreciate you sharing this experience. I'm using my Wiim Ultra as a preamp sending signal directly to my Yamaha M-70 power amp. I will be turning down the attenuators on the Yamaha as soon as I get home to avoid this potential catastrophe.

That is a nice amp.

Sure, I'm interested. Shall I PM you for details?

Definitely NOT the Topping Pre90 - having done a tear down on one I was very disappointed to find that its key components were only OPA1612's opamps and a 20 year old Texas Instruments headphone amplifier chip (tpa6120a2) costing $3 and $2 respectively.
Hardly state-of-the-art tech as was claimed at the time I bought it.
There is also another chip footprint under the OPA1612's once they are removed - which would indicate they made another version of it - possibly a "White Glove" version?:mad:

So you've been banned from posting in the other thread and now you start here ?
If you think your personal Pre90 is bad, prove it.
Measure it.
Otherwise, please stop.
