Susvara vs HE1000se (vs Stealth)

SE is more airy, wide, and relaxed.
HE-1000 Stealth is more punchy, edgy, and dynamic.

Best of two worlds: HE6SE

Susvara has these too in spades, still surprised you didn't like it. My 4 watt KT88 Triode strapped SET amp drives Susvara fine with plenty of headroom, dynamics and that holographic imaging and beautiful tonality. Susvara edges out the Expanse, Utopia and Stealth in my preferences, trades blows with Stax SR X9000 and only the Sennheiser HE-1 beats it in my subjective preferences.

Relative to Arya Organic (Arya V4), Susvara still edges it out across the board but the gap is getting a lot closer than ever

Does that mean the Arganic is on same level of the HE1000SE? Or is there still a difference? Did you happen to compare these 2?

There’s still a difference but mostly imaging within the soundstage and tonality. Arya Organic leans towards mild V-shaped tonality while HE1000SE is more neutral below 500HZ. Arya sounds wide all the time with less front to back depth while HE1000SE has better depth perception along with wide soundstage. I’d say Arya gets to about 95% HE1000SE and 90% Susvara IMHO

i am considering a V2 stealth or SE.
have read in several places that planars, in general, do not have the bass impact/slam as a good dynamic!
firstly is this true or just a myth? and secondly, if it is the case , are either of these affected by this?
unfortunately i have nowhere to audition Hifiman headphones.
any advice would be appreciated.

Not true. Hifiman EQ are tuned to be as flat as possible in the bass region. Just EQ it and get the impact that you want. My Susvara slams and has a ton of impact without any EQ

As a HEK Stealth owner I'd say that this isn't nearly as true as some make it out to be - that is, IMHO. Often, what is described as "impactful" and "slam" in dynamic HPs is actually more often than not in reality a generous "midbass hump", that many HP and speaker manufacturers engineer into dynamic HPs/speakers to make their bass seem to go "deeper" than what it is actually capable of. This is often done to increase their "apparent" or "perceived" bass.

What IS actually true (IMHO) is that the SQ presentation of planar HPs - including the "fast", "clean", never "bloated" nature of planar bass - often takes time to adjust to when coming from the world(s) of only dynamic driver HPs. Quality planars generally sound "faster", "cleaner", more "accurate", and more "detailed" than competing dynamic HPs of the same price range/class (also generally flatter on a frequency response graph). Again, this is in the most "general" sense that isn't "100% true" in all instances......

thanks for the responses guys.
all i need to do now is decide between the V2 stealth and SE.
my experience of planars is very limited, though i did own the LCD2 pre-fazor some years ago.
loved the sound but not the weight and found them unbearable in hot weather.
trialled the ERA-1 a while back along side the "much hyped" Meze 109.
i much prefered the Quad over the Meze from memory, but bought neither.
bought a JM XTC (open) in the end and while i am very pleased with it, i still have this urge to own a mid to high end planar.
having owned the HD800 also, i am a fan of the "airiness". only sold the senn due to its lack (to me) of low end.

from what i have read regarding the 2 HE1000 models, both provide the airiness and "better" low end when compared to the HD800.
i am not a great user of EQ as alongside listening to my flacs via foobar , i also listen to (dont shoot!) vinyl.

I wish you well on your journey to search out which would be "best" for you. I juuust bought the HEK Stealths to compare with - and possibly replace - my Arya Stealths. What's funny is that after burning in the HEK Stealth and having it settle in nicely, I'm thinking of keeping BOTH of them, LOL - or I'd need new earpads for the Aryas if I finally made a decision to sell them. Really though, I NEED to sell off some of my existing cans that the HEK Stealth has totally made irrelevant - to maybe partially fund set of HD800S (and an OTL or tube hybrid amp to go with it), a Focal, or something else with a dynamic driver. But that's my own insanity, hahaha....
