PCM FILTER SETTING

Using the PCM filter switch button on the remote control to switch 6 filters.

FL1 (Sharp Roll-off filter)

FL2(Slow Roll-off filter)

FL3(Short Delay Sharp Roll-off filter)

FL4(Short Delay Slow Roll-off filter)

FL5(Super Slow Roll-off filter)

FL6(Low Dispersion Short Delay filter)

Ok the above is typical of some SMSL dacs... so what is the usual recommended setting?

It defaults to FL1.

@potfur
OP's list of filter is from an AKM DAC while the C200 in the graph you posted uses an ESS DAC.
They have different filters in different order, so the graph adds confusion more than anything else.

so one assumes these things are fixed baked into the dac chip (or support chips)

there's one list for ess, one for akm

Usually, the one with the best combination of HF extension and out-of-band attenuation.
To tell you which one that is, it'd be helpful to know what DAC your list came from.

The C100 uses the 4493SEQ chip. Here are its filter responses:

Slow, Short Delay Slow, and Super Slow are objectively bad. The other three are fine. For music listening, I'd choose the regular Sharp filter probably.
