A little aside: the first ever commercial multichannel album ("Up") digital release was from Peter Gabriel! We (my team at Microsoft) collaborated with him to release his album this way. See: https://news.microsoft.com/2002/09/...-5-1-channel-surround-sound-digital-download/

He is definitely a pioneer in this regard.

Amir, thanks for that bit of historical info.

PG led Genesis is my all time favorite band and his solo career has been exceptional, Solsbury Hill to Biko and all parts in between. I've seen him in concert more times than I can count. Always entertaining.

Listened to a few minutes of a few tracks. It’s just horrible. He should retire.

And the video of Paneticon whatever still looks like Sledgehammer visuals!
Yeah, I have to agree with you on that.

Having already succumbed to the dark side of the force I will have to look for the dark side mix.

This brings me back to a thought I've had a lot lately - how far are we from having access to creating our own mixes. Lets say I have a particular "sound" I prefer - imagine a scenario where our audio rendering tools can adapt for that preferred mix for "my sound". Imagine having that kind of access to the music and having the chance to challenge (and improve?) the decisions of the artist. That said a "house mix" would probably be the most popular option for most folks, but in this community, I wonder .....
Mogwai's 2003 album Happy Songs For Happy People included all the separate tracks for the tune "Hunted By A Freak", along with Cubase software for creating your own version of the track. More recently, Crass provided stems for their tracks and encouraged people to submit remixes for a new release to raise money to support people suffering domestic abuse.

Apple Music stopped playing after the first set and needed a break,
Is that a feature or a bug?
;)

The internet is really something.
Yup.
Imagine - a century from now, there'll be hundreds of thousands of PhD-level Internet historians clogging the drainpipes of academe.
;)

PS I have alwasy kinda liked Peter Gabriel (always as in back to the Peter Gabriel-era Genesis), but only in pretty small doses. He's one of those artists that I figure is doing something of which (or is that to which?) there's more than meets the eye -- but I'm danged if I can figure out what it is.

I voted Dark-side, I did this before noticing the file sizes, but I can definitely hear those extra bytes :)

My CD player got to about 5 seconds in and it tossed the CD like a frisbee out the window on the Interstate. For a second I thought only my tweets were working. I put my L.A.Woman CD back in and all was right with the world again.

I guess that makes the In-Side Mix the obvious winner then :)

Gabriel's solo projects tend to be an acquired taste, much like cat piss
Can't say I know that flavor...guess I should defer to your experience?

But hey, fine Scotch is an acquired taste too, no?

Maybe feature of Apple Music skill for Amazaon Echo Link? If I play on my phone, it keeps going at end of bright-side.

The Echo Link is in our guest room so won't get to try again for a while.:)

That's pretty remarkable. Five whole seconds! And then you hit eject, grabbed the CD and tossed it like a frisbee out your car. And put on the frickin' DOORS, man!

Ugh.

Though lukewarm on the idea until now, such doltish posts have convinced me to pony up for the BluRay of Peter's new one.

Enjoy this while I wait for delivery:

Then again, to some, something like Laphroaig may as well be cat piss.....just goes to show good taste isn't universal. :)

Not a huge fan of that. Balvenie, Oban, Talisker, and their like...those are the tastes I've acquired over Laphroaig.

I imagine 'cat piss' tastes something like the yellow Caol Ila I once had. Quite disappointing.

That's curious.

I haven't compared them all but a quick glance at the file sizes for some from the direct from source bandcamp 24/96 files shows several of the bright side mixes to be the larger of the two and the opposite of your list.

I find that concentrated hydrochloric acid has a scent that's evocative of tomcat spray.

Lagavulin is probably my favorite. Islay generally works for me. Talisker and Oban over Balvenie. I really like Laphroaig, tho. It has hilarious descriptions attributed to it, too. Not sure I've had the Caol Ila....

Wow.

It's his best record in ages. It's almost as good as Melty Face Gabriel!
That's the sort of boldly experimental PG that started to go missing after So, so this is good to read.
