You are correct to wonder why I’d need so much voltage.
No problem, just curious, considering the estimated levels. I like a little headroom, too.
I have this guestimation:
Which doesn't
quite square with the amplifier spec:
The 49V rms is probably somewhat misleaing, 49V pk to
ground, maybe that's how they have to calculate it to meet
FTC requirements.
The Output Power numbers appear to be calculated using one leg of the speaker outputs to ground, so may be on the low side of reality, also courtesy of the FTC. scanning the document, it doesn't mention rms or root mean square or ground, and volt is only mentioned once, with sensitivity, so, ???
As I see it, Differential Output makes it 98Vrms available (2400Wrms), or 138.6Vpk (4788Wpk), across the speaker itself, here at Neverland East.
Speaker spec:
Anyway, lots of power headroom available here too.
I don't push
too hard. I don't like to break stuff.
I don't hear any strain at the levels I play (loud enough for me when loud is 105dB peaks or a couple more), and the one "Let's see what happens in a calibrated way on this exuberant drum solo" I did with the current setup sounded fine, but also sounded like someone bashing the speakers with a baseball bat for the few moments I let it go (117dB SPL peak noted at the listening position), so, no need...
